Born August 11, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Bertie Emma Leonard Cannon. He was a retired farmer and Corning Glass Works employee for 30 years and was a supervisor for 12 years. He was a member of Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: his wife, Juanita Royalty Cannon, Danville; one son, Lt. Col. Robert Leo (Dianne) Cannon, Alexandria, VA; four daughters, Sandra (Marion Ray) Inman, Rita (Arnold) Baker, Harrodsburg, Karen (John) Lay, Canton, GA, Kathy (Mitchell) Roe, Winchester; two brothers, Forrest and Andrew Cannon, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Hazel Arnold, Danville, Lorraine Kurtz and Geneva Stakelin, both of Lexington; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Cannon and two sisters, Martina Nooe and Violet Meredith. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. James Byrd officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robbie Cannon, Chris Votaw, Eric Inman, Jerry Kurtz, Forrest Larry Kurtz, Brent Arnold, Bill and Darrell Beavers. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church. (HH Thu Sep 6, 2001)
