Dear Listers: Does anyone know of any oral histories, stories, about a Gritton who was a lawyer in the Appalachia area who got a Mc Donald woman pregnant about 1831? The story I have goes that John Gritton's mother was McDonald, she became pregnant by a Gritton on the other side of the mountains. She came carrying him wrapped in a blanket. She was offered a calico dress in exhange for him and sold him to a cousin who raised him, by the name of Andrews. John Gritton was born illigitimate as his father never showed up after his mother became pregnant and he was supposed to be a lawyer. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for any help.
