Clark captured it from the British. The troops stayed at Corn island for a short time which is near where Louisville Ky is today. I don't think the troops were too friendly with the indians at that time. Since Peter's wife couldn't write her name (her signature does not appear on any of their deeds etc.), I'm wondering if her name was Conway or something like that and the spelling just got all screwed up.
