    1. [KYMERCER] Alvin Marshall, early 1900s

    3. My great grandfather was Alvin Carl Marshall, who, according to his military enlistment record, was born in Harrodsburg. I have been unable to find *anything* out about this man from any time period other than 1917-1919 when he was in the army, and 1930-1932 when he married my great-grandmother and lived in Louisville until his death in 1932. According to his death certificate, his parents names were John Marshall and Nellie Rice, and according to his obituary he had a sister named Blanch Murry and a brother named Earl Jones. He would have been born around 1895. I'm so far unable to find any of these people on the censuses from Mercer County during that time period. For awhile I thought that perhaps they were just one of those families that moved around a lot, but I also have a clipping from what I assume is a Harrodsburg/Mercer County newspaper from when he returned from WWI, saying he was from a place called Shaker Bend, and I also have a medal given to him by the city of Harrodsburg for service in the war, both of which give the impression that he was rooted in the town at least for a few years around 1920. If anyone knows anything about any of these people, the parents especially, please let me know. I'm at my wits end with this line. I will be going to Harrodsburg next week and any leads to work with when I get there would be great. Thanks! Shannon
