I really need help here...please read through (I know it's a lot) and see if you can contribute anything. Sometimes something that seems insignificant can provide a clue that unlocks a door. William H. WARD was first appeared in the 1840 Mercer Co census. He married first Margaret GRITTON, d/o William GRITTON and Jenney Jane LIPSEY, and had 3 children: Merritt b. abt 1841, Elevin b. 1844 and Mary b. abt 1845. He then married Milliann Jane GRITTON, Margaret's sister, and then married a third time to Nancy Ann LEWIS. William, (Milliann) Jane, Merritt, Elevin and Mary were in the 1850 Mercer Co. census. By 1860 the family had emmigrated to Johnson County, IN. Levin (Elevin) was living with Ambrose HODGES and family as a farm hand, and William, Nancy, and their two children, Elizabeth b. abt 1854 and Jacob b. abt 1859 were in the household of Mary POWELL, widow of John POWELL. The Powells had also emmigrated from Mercer County. William and Nancy had another child, James, b. abt. 1861. William died in Johnson County, IN 28Jun1903. My theory is that the father of William H. WARD was George S. WARD. George was in Jessamine County 1800, Woodford Co. 1820, Mercer Co. 1830, Washington Co. 1840, and Mercer Co. 1850. 1850 census shows his age as 72, so he was b. abt 1778, in VA. In his household were Mary, age 30, Hannah, age 24, Jeptha, age 12, and George, age 6. George S. WARD married Hester Veatch (shown in KY marriage records as Easter Veace) 08Aug 1814 and Mary LUYSTER 10Feb1819. Will ANYONE with ANY information PLEASE e-mail me!!! [email protected] I have found only marriage and census records; there were so many Wards in Mercer county, some were connected, some not, and none of my Wards are in any wills or anything to definitely connect them with anyone else. It's like they dropped out of the sky. Thank you!!! Anne
