Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gBB.2ACI/3393.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for all your efforts. Yes, their names really got butchered in their marriage records. I too thought George and Rhoda Burks seemed the most likely parents for Dorcas. However, I viewed George's will on a FHL microfilm and there is no mention of Dorcas or her heirs, and she would have still been alive when he wrote the will, and living in the same area of Indiana. I've been in contact with a couple descendents of George and they have no Dorcas listed in any of their records either. So now I'm considering George's brother Allen James as a possibility, though I have no idea why George would have posted her marriage bond instead of Allen. I did find Daniel in the 1850 census for Jefferson Twp, Putnam Cty, Indiana on p. 478, dwelling 178. Daniel's name was incorrectly indexed as David M French. Daniel H was a son of Daniel & Dorcas. Daniel A was a grand nephew of Daniel.

Dear Listers: I am helping my new son-in-law, Cliff Giles, research his family tree and there are some Grittons in one of the branches. The particular branch we are interested in is John Gritton and Mary Moore of the Kings Creek, Hancock Co., West Virginia area and whose daughter Rosalina b. 1867 in Hancock Co. is a direct ancestor. Rosalina married John Carpenter possibly in Ohio @ 1887 and had children in West Virginia and then Greene Twp in Hocking County, OH. In looking over the "pockets" of Grittons in the U.S. for this particular time period I see that there are a lot of them in Mercer County, Kentucky. Is it possible that this John Gritton and/or his parents left Kentucky and went up to the Virginia/West Virginia area earlier? Thank you for anything you can help us with on this family. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Janice Connell Whidbey Island, Washington State

Here's what I know about her: She was born Dec 25, 1800 in Kentucky Dorcas married Daniel McAninch in Mercer Cty, Kentucky on Jan 8, 1822, George Burks certified she was 21 as the bond for her marriage In 1828 Dorcas & Daniel moved to the Mill Creek area along the county line between Putnam County and Hendricks County, Indiana. Children of Dorcas & Daniel: William A McAninch born 1822 ?Mercer Cty, Kentucky Daniel Harris McAninch born 1824 ?Mercer Cty, Kentucky Louisa McAninch born 1827 Kentucky Samuel McAninch born 1830 Indiana George B McAninch born 1834 Indiana Louvica McAninch born 1838 Indiana Loutisha McAninch born 1841Indiana Dorcas' daughter Louisa married Joseph Thomas Piercy and lived in Putnam Cty, Indiana The son of Delila Burks (dtr of Allen James Burks, Sr of Mercer Cty) - Harvey Denny - married Amanda Lavica Piercy, who was a sister to Joseph Thomas Piercy. (I'm convinced there is some relationship between Delila & Dorcas) Nov 27, 1881 Dorcas died and was buried in Stilesville Cemetery, Hendricks Cty, Indiana Since George Burks provided the bond for her marriage, I had hoped George & Rhoda Burks of Mercer Cty were her parents. But there is no mention of Dorcas in George's will.

We have a conflicting date on the marriage of Dr. Harvey T. RAY to Eliza A.W. COZINE, daughter of Cornelius A. Cozine and Jane Vanarsdol. Gen. Index to Marriage licences Mercer Co KY gives Book 1 Page 366, 13 Sep 1830. 1830: Cornelius Cozine gave consent for Eliza A.W. COZINE to wed Harvey RAY. (Marriage bonds and consents of Mercer Co KY pg 113) > "Another entry as copied by the D.A. R. historian, concerned Harvey T. > Ray and Eliza A. Cozine, who were married September 21, 1830 > (footnote 25)" > > "Footnote 25 - KY Mercer Co, Marriages 1785 - 1830, pg 58" Maybe one date is the date of the Bond, maybe another is the date of license (required in 1830?), and a third the date of the actual marriage? Could anyone on this list please check the book and let me know? Hugs, Carolyn Remember, you have a friend in Oklahoma! http://homepage.mac.com/carolynleonard
