His second marriage was with Amanda M. Wheeler, July 6, 1843, one son from that union, Harvey T. Young(b.12/5/1846), my gr. grandfather, Thomas Franklin apparently died soon afterwards. You mentioned you had some informtion on the above gentleman. I have found that he supposedly was born in 1808 in Mercer County(??) and he did have a first wife names Nancy Jane Springer(two Children, David, and Nancy(Neale), adopted??); no knowledge what happened to the wife and children. He married, Amanda M. Wheeler afterwards(July 6, 1843), Harvey T. Young,12/5/1846,(my gr. gf) was her only child from Thomas. Amanda remarried Shelton Ransdell, 1/17/1848. I have no knowledge Thomas Franklin Young's father and mother, brothers and sisters, cousins and so forth. I assume he died prior to Amanda marrying since devorce was unheard of in Harrodsburg during this era.

I do not have a source listed for this but I know it came from John P. Renfree. As I remember his data on Lewis' children came from a Bible record, but I do not have that noted either. You will find Renfree's data on James here: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=powell&id=I048 You might try to contact him. Another clue that points to the James that married Nixon as not being a son of Lewis is the names of this couples children and grandchildren. I did not find one Lewis, Milly or Charles listed amoung their desc. Also, William and John are common given names in our line. You might want to search our Lewis Powell line yourself for further clues, but I sure would not set James that married Margaret Nixon as a son of Lewis without some firm documentation to back up this assumption. Dear Listers: Does anyone know of any oral histories, stories, about a Gritton who was a lawyer in the Appalachia area who got a Mc Donald woman pregnant about 1831? The story I have goes that John Gritton's mother was McDonald, she became pregnant by a Gritton on the other side of the mountains. She came carrying him wrapped in a blanket. She was offered a calico dress in exhange for him and sold him to a cousin who raised him, by the name of Andrews. John Gritton was born illigitimate as his father never showed up after his mother became pregnant and he was supposed to be a lawyer. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for any help. Married Henry C. Oliver 01 November, 1883 -Garrard County, Kentucky. Henry is son of Carter and Betty/Elizabeth (Sharp) Oliver, They moved their family back and forth from Mercer/Jessamine counties, Kentucky. Carter and Elizabeth had six children, William b-1824, Sarah b-1826, Mary b-1828, Lucy b-1830, Henry born abt 1838, and Martha(Mattie) b-1839.Info from census records show Henry died 1890--1898?, wife Lucy widowed with three daughters, living with brother-in-law(William). And in 1910 census, lucy with three daughters are living with sister-in-law Martha/Mattie, in South Burgin, Mercer County. The three daughters names were Betty-Ema-Susan, Betty is my great grand-mother, I have no information on the other two sisters, or the Oliver family, any help appreciated, Michael W. Huffman...
