The only thing I know about her is from her One and only marriage to William S McKendree in Logan County and what happened in her life after that. I want so much to know who her parents were and if she had any sibblings. Does anyone one have Books that they could look somethings up? Can anyone look at 1820 census and see if she is listed as an infant? I hope there is someone out there that can help me. I would truly appreciate you time and efforts in this matter. James (my ancestor) And S.T. Mayes (Stith?)were the executors. The names are: B. Mayes (Berry?) Amy C. Gravis (cosigned with Franklin Gravis) Mary Sweeny (cosigned with James Sweeny John G. Mayes (signed with X) S. T. Mayes (Stith, I believe) Joel Mayes William Mayes Grandison Mayes (Note spelling) The 1850 KY census records (I have a copy) show these Mayes folks as heads of households along with names of spouses & minors. Hope this helps. Tom

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gBB.2ACI/787.662.2.2.1.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Shirley, There is an old, old cemetary known as McMullen cemetary on East Bank Rd., off Ky 152 at the Mercer/Washington Co. line. Down the hill on the left is a grove of trees and bushes. This is the overgrown McMullen cemetary. Katherine Mayes Graham told me two years ago that John Granderson Mayes is buried there. I could not see any Mayes tombstones in my brief search there (difficult), but she just sent me copies of old pictures of tombstones taken many years ago, including one of my g-grandfather, Overton Harrison Mayes. The old "John G." homeplace is on down East Bank Rd. The road levels out, with a creek on the left. The property on the right--on a big hill--is the old "John G." homeplace. Overton Harrison farmed it, but I don't know about any of his offspring (he had 2 wives, 7 children by the first, Matilda, and 3 by the second, Mary Ann Rose, my g-grandmother). At some point, it was sold out of the Mayes family. If you look at the will of John Mayes on the Mecklenburg Co., VA web site, it lists all of the children. John G. is one of them. He had about 12, I think. One of his sons, John G. Jr., is in my line. in

I understand the importance of these obits, but I do not have time to spend sorting mail I want and discarding all of these "ramblings". 3. In 1774 Captain James Harrod founded Harrod's Town (Harrodsburg) but it wasn't until 1785 that it was recognized as a town when 140 men signed a petition and requested a legislative act. Then in 1786 when Mercer County was formed Harrodsburg became it's county seat. One of the signers was NIMROD DUNCAN...does any one know anything about him? Was MARTIN DUNCAN a descendent of this Nimrod ? I'm looking for information about all of the Duncans in Mercer, Anderson, and Franklin Counties. I am a descendent of Willian ABBOTT, Sr. and Catherine HOBBLIT, Their daughter Margaret D Abbott married William REYNOLDS Jr. Their daughter Maria Reynolds married Mathew A Duncan. I have an growing collection of information on his family and relations, including Hugh McGary, Elizabeth Buntin Talbott, the Yocum sisters, and my line coming down from his daughter Mary "Polly" Ray who married Martin C. Duncan in 1806 in Mercer Co. Kentucky. The Shawnee Springs Station four miles from Fort Harrod became the seat of early Kentucky political and economic influence (several of the early governors of the commonwealth had connections to these adjoining land claims). I have digital photos of some of the early grave sites in Mercer (Ray, Talbot, Grapevine Christian Church) and in Anderson (Duncan-Searcy School Rd.) and in Woodford (Nonesuch) where members of the Ray, McGary, Talbot, Duncan, and Yocum families were buried. Would like to hear from interested family who share this common ancestor who saved the fort several times with his fleet speed and keen eye. I would like to learn more about the relations and history of these people and will share what I have read, learned, and seen.
