It was a mess and the Mayes monuments were at the bottom of the clump of trees. I smiled when I thought of you from California in that remote seeming place and in that pile of briars. I wish we could get it cleaned up and also get a monument. I know you can get one for Civil war soldiers, surely that have them for Rev. war if we could prove he was in the war. Thanks for responding, it was great fun and worth the search. Shirley

Hello, List, While at Mundys Landing in Mercer, and on the other side of the river in Woodford Co. I located two cemeteries that are probably not on any list that I can find. Both were in Woodford on Carter Lane, off of Mundys Landing. They were family cemeteries, one of which was Mundys, and the other Mitchell. Can give exact location if anyone wants to know. Thanks, Marshall
Hello List, Does anyone have access to any Mundys Landing history. If there is history is it detailed. Need information from its concept to 1920 to research Lear family. According to old letters they lived there, on the Mercer side of the river for a long time, but cannot find them in the census. Thanks, Marshall

I found some Rev war records in the Mecklinberg (sp?) Co. VA files at the Filson Club in Louisville. It seems that John Mayes provided some supplies to the Patriots. It's not clear whether he actually fought in the war. Tom

I went this week end and found it. Without your change I might have questioned whether to turn on that road. It was pretty remote when you don't know where you are going. Thanks again, Shirley

I am also scratched from the briars and brambles. Yes, I have been to the Mayes Cemetary. Yes, I found the Mayes family. I don't think it could be done in the summer without being bitten by snakes or insects. They were on the downhill side of the knoll. Many were turned over and hard to see. We took pictures on the digital and I will send to you when we get them on the computor. I saw the stones of Matilda and I believe the Rose lady. I did not write down the names I hope they show up on the film. It was quite an adventure. I also went to Mackville and found the James Henry Mayes family at the Mackville Cemetary I don't know where to look for Berry. Thanks for the directions, we had your's and the change from Birchell Coslow which helped. The name of the road was East Fork so we continued on down the road. How much fun. Shirley

It was as difficult as Fred described. If it had not been winter I deem it impossible. I did find the Mayes family. I have the stones and the cemetary on the digital and will send to you when we put them on the computor. I did'nt write the names down but I believe we found Overtons wives. I did'nt find John's that I could idenify. Was he a Rev. war soldier. Sometimes you can get stones for men who fought. The graveyard was in a pitiful state. Briars and brambles. To bad. Will write more later. Shirley
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could tell me about Mercer County KY? What I am interested in is the time period from about 1820-1840. My family for sure was living there during this time, although it could have been earlier, I can only trace my line back that far. But I would really like to find info on what the landscape was like during this time, what the farmers were doing at this time, the economy, what was going on during this time. When doing genealogy, I like to give a person MORE than a date and name, but an insite to who they actually were and what their lives were like. If anyone out there can fill me in on what Mercer County KY was like during this time of 1820-1840 it would help me out a lot understanding what my Gr Gr Grandfather was really like and what his life was like there. Thank you. ..Jeff Bright _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

Surnames: Plew/Goodlett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gBB.2ACI/2747.2.1.1 Message Board Post: I believe John J Goodlett's father to be James Goodlett Sr. I am still working on it. I have gathered a lot of information, and still putting the pieces together. What is your line of Goodlett's down to you? Is your family Plew or Norton? Do you live in KY? Facts I have John J. Goodlett became guardian to Margaret's sister's Sarina, Lucinda and Mary Plew on 3/18/1868 in Washington County. The Goodlett's lived on the Washington/Mercer County line. They were skipped alot in the census because the river would be to high for the census taker to cross. Margaret's father is David Plew. They called Margaret (Peggy). Margaret and John had a son Jasper goodlett born 11/3/1855. A J. Morgan was witness at their wedding. They are burried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, on the line of Mercer/Washiongton County. A William H Goodlett married Susan E Norton 11/20/1870 Bk5-page 126. Also from the Ky Archieves computer has John S. Goodlett married Alice Norton 3/2/1864, Washingto! n County. thisn last one sometone may have just put in with or with out facts. My mother and I drove all around the area in October but never did find the church. We got our information from Harrodsburg Geneoligy Society, Harrodsburg Court House Annex Records, Frankfort Historical Socity, Ky State Archieves, Washington County Court House Records. We also have all the records from Nelson, Bourbon, Mercer, Scott and Washington Counties. All the records on Goodlett's not burned in fires, mostley during the civil war, they burned the court houses on purpose. Most of the Goodlett's in this area that we contacted do not know but one or two generations back and do not reallly care. No one seams to have a family bible either. Below is not pure facts, some guess, some facts. I believe John's brother's and sister's are. WILLIAM GOODLETT SR b: 1786 in VA m: Catherine Clark 3/13/1822 Mercer Co. KY, she was b: 4/1798 d: 1850 Washington Co. KY. and married once before to Richard Hu! me. Their children Robert C.,Sarah A., Ebenezer, Catherine, Ellen J. Nancy, Elizabeth and John. EBENEZER E. GOODLETT b:1808 d: 4/1/1845 Washington Co KY m: Elizabeth ?, childrenAngelinia,Caroline,Alamarinda and Martha E. JAMES GOODLETT JR b: 1808 m: Jane Sorter 12/17/1828 in Mercer County KY. b: about 1806 children Alsey A. b:1836 d:8/4/1858 m:James R. Dennis 1/27/1856 Washington Co. KY. William H b:1832 and Serena J. b:1838, both Alsey A. and James R. Dennis are burried Bethel Baptist Church Mercer Co. KY. JOHN J GOODLETT b:11/14/1814 d:9/18/1899 m: Margaret Plew 4/2/1845 one sone I have as fact Jasper Goodlett b: 11/3/1855. Then you said JOHN J married again two Aliss Norton. MARY GOODLETT m:Lewis Lake 4/6/1829, Mercer co. KY his father Richard Lake. NANCY GOODLETT b: ? 1816 m:Thomas Anderson 8/28/1837 Mercer Co. KY they had a daughter Isabella Anderson b: 1/25/1851 or 1857. DAVID GOODLETT b:11/25/1828 d:8/7/1849 m:Mary A. ? b:4/6/1822 d:4/15/1881 son James R. Goodlett b:4/16/1858 d: 3/24/1875, all are buried in Ellis Family Cemetery, near Ashbrook, Anderson Co. KY. I think their is also a daughter Margaret amd maybe Elizabeth. William Goodlett Sr is my 3rd great grandfather. I know James Goodlett Sr is related to Adam Goodlett from VA and Scotland, I believe he is the first son of Adam born before Dr. John Goodlett who married Rebecca Patterson 11/11/1807. This is not the same son as James Ra! lph Erskin b:1789. James Goodlett Sr had to be married in VA since William was born in VA. I have alot more info and will take a very long time to sort out, my mother and made copies of everything and have not pieced all the records together. we have not been to Anderson CO. KY yet. we believe their is a lot of information their.
