As I told you, they had four children...all born in South Carolina. John Price, was the oldest son, followed by two daughters Jane, Pearl, and then my father, Walker Theodore. All of the children are now deceased, and all, with the exception of John Price, are buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah (made famous by the book Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil"). John Price is buried in Brunswick, Georgia.

I don't remember seeing it in any of the data on the Stansell side, so maybe it comes from the Harrod side. And then maybe it was just a next-door neighbor? I'll let you know if I find anything. Lots of Limehouses in the Charleston area. Best Charleston Naval Shipyard submarine torpedo tube repairman was named Limehouse. He had parts stashed away to fix our WWII vintage tubes that no one else had in the world. Even the crusty old Chief Torpedoman called him "Mr.", an honor he bestowed on no other civilian. Limehouse Station on John's Island right over the bridge from Hwy 17. Limehouse Seafood store has been on Spring Street at the foot of the bridge over the Ashley River for years. My father-in-law seems to think Walker Price married a second Limehouse woman after Eva. Did he have a second wife? Jane Rebecca Harrod's husband Myrick Javan Hethington was a sawyer and timberman in Colleton County also. So was her oldest son, John Mercer Hethington. Has to be some connection with the fact that Walker Price Harrod was in the same business.

Thanks for the information. We have both spellings for Jane Stansal and Stansell in our records, but "Stansal" is most often recorded. We do not have copies of any census records, only the Bonaventure Cemetery records mentioning Harrodsburg,Ky.There is a mention of W. P. Harrod in "THE HISTORY OF SOUTH CAROLINA' (Yates Snowden,LLD. The Lewis Publishers, copyright 1920) indicating that he owned a saw-mill on Wadmalaw Island near Charleston, S. C. There are also family members mentioned on John's Island, Summerville and Orangeburg, South Carolina. Do you know of these relatives? Walker Price and Eva Limehouse Harrod relocated from South Carolina to Oliver, Georgia, in the late 20's or early 30's during the Great Depression era. He owned a saw-mill and general store there until his death in 1944. We never knew that Jane Stansell's mother was a Walker (maiden name). We often wondered why there were so many family members named Walker. Now it makes sense. We also have many named Price (including me). Any ideas there? There was a Margaret Price on the Limehouse side, but that doesn't account for my grandfather's middle name. Again, David, Many thanks for this valuable information. Best regards, Bob

Only two things different.. The spelling is Stansell. Often misspelled, but that appears to be the correct way for this particular bunch. Jane's father was Lovett Bryant Stansell, who died in Jalapa, Mexico in 1847 during the Mexican War. Her mother was Jacintha Theresa Almedia Walker. In the 1850 Barnwell census, she is listed as "Ginsey" Stansell. Never, ever, heard of a connection to Harrodsburg, KY. do you have census records or something placing them there? I would guess these two never left SC. But then cemetery records are notorious for errors.

This has been a difficult search. My grandfather was Walker Price Harrod (1870-1944) from Hampton County,S.C. He was married to Eva Emma Limehouse(1875-1942) of Charleston. Eva was the daughter of Robert Ilderton Limehouse (1842-1920) and Agnes Frankford Brown (1846-1891). I have lots of information on the Limehouse family, but not much on the Harrods or Stansals. My grandparents (Walker Price and Eva Limehouse) had 4 children.. John Price, Walker Theodore(my father), Jane Harrod Henderlite and Pearl Harrod Smith McWhite. We knew very little about my grandfather's family. My grandparents both died in Savannah, Georgia, and are buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. Cemetery records list his parents as John Harrod and Jane Stansal Harrod of Harrodsburg, Ky. That's all the information I have on them. If you have any other information...I would certainly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for your help Best regards....Bob Harrod

John Samuel Harrod b. ca 1817 of Barnwell and Beaufort Districts, SC married (1) Michael Moye and (2) Jane Agusta Stansell b. ca 1824 (her real name may have been Jacintha, after her mother). In the 1850 Barnwell District Census, John and Jacintha have John's son by his first wife, George, living with them. In the 1860 Beaufort District Census, John and Jane have five children, Jane Rebecca (possibly also originally named Jacintha), Julia Anna, Mary Ellen Bruce, John Stansell, and Pauline Rachael. The last child of the family was born after the 1860 census and was (according to family notes) Walker Price. Same notes say he married Eva Limehouse. My wife's ggrandfather, Myrick Javan Hethington, was married to both Jane Rebecca Harrod and (late in life) to Mary Ellen Bruce Harrod Rowell. How many Walker Price Harrods can there be? Hampton County did not exist until about 1876, but it was formed from pieces of Beaufort and Barnwell. so the location seems correct. I have some Stansell information, but not much on Harrod. Only piece that doesn't seem to fit is your note about John and Jane living in Harrodsburg, KY ca 1860-1910. Not likely. Their descendants seemed to have stayed around the Carolina Lowcountry.....so I don't think the parents uprooted to KY. Of course, after the Civil War, anything was possible.
