Adeline was Sarah Elizabeth Cooley White's sister. On that 1850 census Adeline and her brother Aaron Henry lived with Fielding and Sarah. The Cooley's father had died in 1845 according to my source but don't know about mother. Sarah had a child shortly after the census was taken and evidently died in childbirth and the baby boy died shortly after. Fielding married a Mary James on April 3, 1851 and went to Iowa where they were on 1860 census in Mahaska County and 1870 census in Marion County. Adeline and Aaron were not with them by then. Fielding and Sarah are my ggg grandparents.

Surnames: Ward, Gritton, Lewis, Powell, Veatch, Luyster Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gBB.2ACI/2983 Message Board Post: !!!!!!!!!!!SOS!!!!!!!!!!! I really need help here...please read through (I know it's a lot) and see if you can contribute anything. Sometimes something that seems insignificant can provide a clue that unlocks a door. William H. WARD was first appeared in the 1840 Mercer Co census. He married first Margaret GRITTON, d/o William GRITTON and Jenney Jane LIPSEY, and had 3 children: Merritt b. abt 1841, Elevin b. 1844 and Mary b. abt 1845. He then married Milliann Jane GRITTON, Margaret's sister, and then married a third time to Nancy Ann LEWIS. William, (Milliann) Jane, Merritt, Elevin and Mary were in the 1850 Mercer Co. census. By 1860 the family had emmigrated to Johnson County, IN. Levin (Elevin) was living with Ambrose HODGES and family as a farm hand, and William, Nancy, and their two children, Elizabeth b. abt 1854 and Jacob b. abt 1859 were in the household of Mary POWELL, widow of John POWELL. The Powells had also emmigrated from Mercer County. William and Nancy had another child, James, b. abt. 1861. William died in Johnson County, IN 28Jun1903. My theory is that the father of William H. WARD was George S. WARD. George was in Jessamine County 1800, Woodford Co. 1820, Mercer Co. 1830, Washington Co. 1840, and Mercer Co. 1850. 1850 census shows his age as 72, so he was b. abt 1778, in VA. In his household were Mary, age 30, Hannah, age 24, Jeptha, age 12, and George, age 6. George S. WARD married Hester Veatch (shown in KY marriage records as Easter Veace) 08Aug 1814 and Mary LUYSTER 10Feb1819. Will ANYONE with ANY information PLEASE e-mail me!!! [email protected] I have found only marriage and census records; there were so many Wards in Mercer county, some were connected, some not, and none of my Wards are in any wills or anything to definitely connect them with anyone else. It's like they dropped out of the sky. Thank you!!! Anne

I have reliable sources that my GreatGreatGrandfather and GGGrandmother are both buried there, also my GGuncle, and none of these people are listed in that book. I have written to the address for the Shawnee Run Church but noone ever returned any information or acknowledge receipt of my letter. If there are old records stored there I would like also to be able to look thru them for information on my family. If anyone knows who could help with this please let me know.
Does anyone have the book: "History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, KY" by W. H. Perrin? A biography link from the Mercer website led me to an excerpt from that book. The bio is on Hervey W. Letton. On Pg. 511, the 4th and 5th lines of the excerpt say: "Caleb was married to Mary Wilcoxon, Nov. 30, 1790, she was born in John Wilcoxon, May 24, 1772." I think some words are missing between born in ...and John Wilcoxon. My stone wall may have been her brother. I sure would appreciate knowing what those words are if anyone has the book. Many thanks, Bill in sunny Phoenix [email protected]
I want to thank everyone who responded to my request for a lookup in Mercer County! Everyone has been SO helpful. A great group of people on this list! Vickie

He had a family when he arrived in Harrodsburg. First wife died and he married two more times. He died in 1831. Any help out there? Sandy
