    3. To Shannon, Anne, Brett and the rest of the list, I want to apologize for putting incorrect information in my post of yesterday. Anne, I do have Elizabeth HOAGLAND as the spouse of John GRITTON, b: abt 1755. I think my brain and fingers were not on the same wave length last night. He is the same John GRITTONof the Revolutionary War. And yes, the Dorcas you listed is the right one. Shannon, I really do not have alot on the GRITTON family. As my half sister comes through the second marriage of William SPRINGATE to Elizabeth MANN, I have not done alot of research on the GRITTON family. I really have no information on Elizabeth MANN either. Brett, Thank you for the information on Margaret SPRINGATE and James LYONS. I do have the citation for the marriage but had not seen the Will of Nancy LYONS. I take it that this is the mother of James LYONS. Do you by any chance have the names of the children of John BURKS and Margaret SPRINGATE? Thank you, Shannon, Anne & Brett, for correcting my mistake and for giving me more information. Bless you. But we think it's funny. I think I found my maternal great grandfathers family that we didn't know anything about. The Warrens are related to the Overstreets through the Rice's and the Hollands, the Warrens go back to 724 A.D. Charlemagne Emperor of France. We are related to both Thomas and John Overstreet, my husbands great Aunt Minnie Swanstone m. John Rice, James Grossman m . a Overstreet, his sister Mable Grossman m. a Swanstone and my husbands great grandmother was Josephine Overstreet daughter of Charles L. Overstreet and Rachel Swope. So we have several connections with the Overstreets. Thanks so very much I always enjoy chatting about family history.

    3. Hi, Bev I have a question. You have William Springate marrying Dorcas Gritton, daughter of John Gritton and Jane unknown. Is this the John Gritton of the Revolutionary War? If so, I believe that his wife was Elizabeth. I have seen much speculation that her surname was Hoagland, and everyone seems to be searching for verification of that. They had the following children: Rhoda Rosanna, Aaron, Jesse, William, John R., Nancy, Dorcas (b. 1789, d.1818-23), Delilah, Amos, Levi, Jacob, and Mary. William married Jenney Jane Lipsey 27Jan1804 Mercer Co. Is this your same Dorcas? What is your source for the name Jane? Maybe we can get this Hoagland thing straightened out! Anne

    3. Hi Shannon, Yes I am familiar with William Springate who married Dorcas Gritton. He is the ancestor of my half sister, Elizabeth (Springgate) Lowry. William is the youngest child of William Springate and Catherine (unknown). William and Catherine had 8 children: Ledea or Lydia, Margaret, John, Mary, Sarah, Anny and William. Ledea married Jacob Bright in Lincoln Co, Kentucky. They had 11 children Margaret married 1) James Lyons and had 1 child. She married 2) John Burks and had 3 children (whose names I don't know). John married 1) Sarah Egbert in Mercer Co, Kentucky. They had 9 children. He married 2) Mary Jane Hamilton. They had 4 children. Mary married Edward Armstrong in Mercer Co., Kentucky. They had 4 children. Anny married Elijah Driskell in Mercer Co., Kentucky. They had 11 children. William married 1) Dorcas Gritton, daughter of John Gritton and Jane (unknown) in Mercer Co., Kentucky. They had 4 children. She died in 1818. William married 2) Elizabeth Mann in Mercer Co., Kentucky. They had 3 children. William died on 24 Aug 1865 in Jersey Co., Illinois. My half sister is through the second marriage. I do have quite a bit on the Springate's if any one on the list is interested. 3. Hi, Donna Yep, we corresponded a few months ago, and though I've made a bit of progress, it's not much and I'm still looking for help. Your info before was a shot in the arm for me, and I appreciate your responding again. Yes, I've corresponded with Harry, and he was wonderfully patient with me. The Mercer records show George S. Ward marrying Easter Veace, and I suspected a mistranslation. Harry clarified that Easter was, indeed, Hester Veatch. He gave me another piece of information that keeps me interested in George as a father for my William-Hester's sister, Isabella, married Hamilton Gritton in 1833. Hamilton was the brother of two of William's wives, Margaret Gritton and Millian Jane Gritton. So, another connection. I think that the progression goes: George S. Ward m. Hester Veatch they had: George Ward, Jr. Merritt Ward William H. Ward Mary Ward Jeptha Ward (?) George Ward, Jr. married Hannah Veatch, they had: George Ward Harvey Clark Ward Alexander Ward Does this sound right to you? When did your Harvey die? I've checked the Veatch wills, etc. that I could find, also the Gritton and Lipsey records. Thanks, Donna, and I'll keep you posted if I come across anything that might help you. Please let me know if you do the same. Best regards, Anne

    3. Hello, all! I am interested in information that anyone might have on George S. Ward, b. abt 1778 VA, died probably between 1850-1860, probably in Mercer Co, KY. George was in Jessamine Co, KY in 1800, Woodford Co 1820, Mercer Co 1830, Washington Co 1840, and Mercer Co 1850. His occupation was that of carpenter. In 1850 his age was 78, and the occupants of his household were: Mary Ward, age 30, b. KY Hannah Ward, age 24, b. KY Jeptha Ward, age 12, b. KY George Ward, age 6, b. KY I don't know his relationship to any of these people; probably was the father of Mary and Hannah, grandfather of Jeptha and George, but I can't find anything to connect them all. George S. Ward married Hester Veatch (aka Easter Veace)08Aug1814, Mercer Co. There is also a marriage record for George Ward and Mary Polly Luyster (aka Lister) 10Feb1819 Mercer Co. I am operating under the assumption that this is the same George. I am interested in George because I believe him to be the father of my g-g-grandfather, William H. Ward, who was born and raised in Mercer Co. William was born abt 1816, married 3 times, first to Margaret Gritton, second to Milliann Jane Gritton, third to Nancy Ann Lewis. He migrated to Indiana before 1860. If anyone lays claim to any of these individuals, PLEASE contact me!!! [email protected]
