Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gBB.2ACI/3369 Message Board Post: Hello the list! Please excuse the cross-postings. I realize that many researchers subscribe to multiple lists and probably don't want to receive more than one copy of the same message; however, I'm trying to reach as wide an audience of Kentucky historians and genealogists as possible so please bear with me. We are actively engaged in digitizing scarce and out-of-print 19th century map and atlas data for use in genealogical and historical research of this period of Kentucky's history. Each month we receive a number of requests for specific material; either individual maps of a specific region or county atlases from a specific period. Until now, there has been no urgency to document requests for material, and the requests have been handled more or less piecemeal. With this in mind, the short questionnaire below was developed. If you are interested in hard to find research material that is configured for compatible access from your computer, please take a couple of minutes to respond to the five questions below by e-mailing me directly off-list. questions@historic-atlas-series.com Again, thank you for your time and cooperation. 1.) What features are you most interested in when using 19th century atlases and maps in your research? Land owners? Industrial or Commercial site locations? Place names? Transportation routes? 2.) What statistical and historical atlas data do you find most useful in your research? Population? Agriculture? Geological Data? County Histories? Biographical Sketches? Illustrations of People and Places? 3.) What specific region or regions of Kentucky are you most interested in? Please list all counties of interest and any specific material you would like to have computer access to. Include any known bibliographic references. 4.) For general material listed in question 3, please provide the periods of time or date ranges of interest. Again, for specific requests please provide bibliographic reference. 5.) When using research material that has been formatted for computer access, which is the most important: Resolution and detail of the images for printing? Speed of loading and access? Thank you for taking the time to reply to this questionnaire. questions@historic-atlas-series.com We value the input of folks who ultimately will use research material that has been configured for use electronically. Your comments, suggestions and requests for material will be recorded and prioritized, and will influence the kinds of material we continue to make available for researchers such as yourselves. Best Regards, Rich Green Historic Atlas Series http://www.historic-atlas-series.com
All, After all the discussion I forgot a suitable SUBJECT Line. Situation remedied. I think he is the son of Peter. Then I need to find a Carl Garfield Jordan whom I believe is the son of Jefferson Jordan. Carl's 1918 draft registration states his nearest relative is John S Jordan in Franklin, Johnson, IN. Carl was born Feb 25 either 1884 or 1883, possibly in Franklin, Frankfurt KY. From the census information I have found it appears John Seymour Jordan is the son of Jefferson, who is the son of Peter. I suspect Carl is a brother to John Seymour Jordan. Oral tradition states that Carl left home at 16. So he is not with Jefferson for the 1900 census, and of course there is no 1890 census. I just made the following posting to the Dutch Colonies list and thought there would be some interest here as well. With the recent discussion of Daniel Brouwer and Maria Koning on the list, I thought I'd take the time to put down what I had. My line goes through Daniel to his son John and then John's son David. I've tried to note my sources where possible. Notice that I do have some very precise birth dates for a number of the children. These are from an LDS Ancestral File that I referenced. During my research, I found that this particular Ancestral File was very accurate so I do have some faith that these dates are true even though I truly have no idea of their source. I did make an attempt to do a reality check on or validate most of these dates based on other resources. If you have any particular questions let me know. If anyone notices any errors, I'd appreciate the notice so that I can get me records corrected. Steve Brewer Daniel A. Brouwer (son of Abraham Brouwer and Leah Demarest) was baptized in the Hackensack DRC on July 5, 1719 (Hack:121). He married Maria Koning (daughter of Abraham Koning and Susanna De Forrest) in the Hackensack DRC on October 10, 1743 (Hack:61). Daniel's gravesite at the Mud Meeting House in Harrodsburg, Mercer Co, KY says he was a member of the New York militia during the Revolutionary War. I found a reference in Indiana DAR Vol. 1 claiming: SERVICE: Daniel Brower, private in the Dutchess Co., Militia under Capts. Brinkerhoff, Brower and Bunschaten. Daniel has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1779 - 1786 for 200 acres of land. Daniel died in Mercer Co, Ky in February 1791. (Daniel Brower Mercer Co, Ky Will Book 1, Page 49. Names eldest son, Abraham Brower, son, Daniel Brower, daughter, Leah Stagg, wife of James Stagg, daughter, Susannah Demaree, wife of Samuel Demaree, daughter, Rachel Commingo, wife of Henry Commingo, daughter, Mary Demaree, wife of Samuel Demaree, Jr., son, John Brower, daughter, Phebe Demaree, wife of Cornelius Demaree. Executors: sons, Abraham and John Brower, and Samuel Demaree, Sr.. Written January 15, 1791. Witnesses: Peter Demaree, Frances Monfort and John Demaree. Proved February 22, 1791.) Maria Koning appears to have died prior to 1791 but I've never seen any documentation of her death. I believe that Daniel, Maria and the unmarried children along with John and Jannetje, Susanna and Samuel, Mary and Cornelius left the Conewago Colony for Kentucky about 1786. Abraham and Sarah appear to have left the colony for Kentucky about a year earlier. Some of Daniels married daughters didn't move to Kentucky until a few years later. Daniel and Maria had the following children: 1) Leah Brewer was baptized in the Schraalenburgh DRC on July 15, 1744 (Schraal:95) She married James Stagg (son of Cornelius Stagg and Antje Christi) in the Schraalenburgh DRC on October 13, 1765 (New Jersey Colonial Documents). James has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1792 - 1795 for 97 acres of land. Leah died September 29, 1810 in Kentucky. James died May 4, 1825 in Kentucky. Leah and James had the following children: 1a) Cornelius Stagg (Baptized August 10, 1766 Schraalenburgh DRC (Needs verification)), Died February 28, 1796 (Stagg Family Records) 1b) Daniel Stagg (Baptized/Born July 9, 1769 Schraalenburgh DRC (Schraal:165)), Died October 25, 1857 KY 1c) Anna Stagg (Baptized January 26, 1772 Schraalenburgh DRC (Needs verification)), Died March 3, 1846 IN 1d) Cornelius Stagg (Baptized March 13, 1774 Schraalenburgh DRC Needs verification) 1e) Johannes Stagg (Baptized September 27, 1778 Conewago (Conewago Records)) Died before October 14, 1787 1f) Maria Stagg (Baptized December 03, 1780 Conewago (Conewago Records)), Died young 1g) Sara Stagg (Baptized April 13, 1783 Conewago (Conewago Records)) 1h) John Stagg (Baptized October 14, 1787 Conewago (Conewago Records)), Died November 3, 1812 KY (Stagg Family Records) 2) Abraham Brewer was baptized in the Hackensack DRC on March 19, 1745/46 (Needs verification). He married Sarah Van Orden (daughter of Johannis Van Orden and Adriana Webbers?) about 1769 in New Jersey. He married Polly Wells (daughter of John Wells?) on June 3, 1817 in Mercer Co. KY (Mercer Co. Marriage Bonds). Abraham has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1779 - 1783. In 1783 he has no land. Abraham died July 1828 in Mercer Co., KY. Abraham was among the group of Dutch men from the Conewago Colony that made the first expedition to central Kentucky around 1783. This fits in with the gap in his children from 1781 to 1786. Abraham and Sarah had the following children: 2a) Daniel A. Brewer was born August 24, 1770 and baptized September 16, 1770 in NJ(Schraal:168)). He married Nancy Curry on October 22, 1810 (Mercer Co. Marriage Bonds) in Mercer Co, KY. He died May 3, 1858 in Mercer Co., KY (Kentucky Cemetery Records) 2g) Sarah "Sally" Brewer was born May 1788 in KY (Indiana DAR Vol. 2). She married Simon Van Arsdale on February 25, 1805 in Mercer Co., KY (Mercer Co. Marriage Bonds). She married Henry Whitenack (Indiana DAR Vol. 2). Abraham and Polly had the following children: 2h) David Brewer who married Rachel Sally. (Indiana DAR Vol. 2) 2i) Elizabeth Brewer (Indiana DAR Vol. 2) 2j) Rachel Brewer who married Creed Dawson. (Indiana DAR Vol. 2) 3) Susanna Brewer was baptized in the Schraalenburgh DRC on March 22, 1747 (Schraal:102). She married Samuel Demaree (son of David Demarest and Catherine Van Houten) in the Schraalenburgh DRC on December 1, 1768 (New Jersey Colonial Documents). Susanna died between 1791 and 1810. She married Henry Comingore (son of) about 1772 in New Jersey. Rachel died about 1836 in Kentucky. Henry has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1779 - 1793. Part of this may be his son Henry. Rachel and Henry had the following children: 5a) Annie Comingore was born April 14, 1773 in NJ. 5b) Daniel Comingore was baptized August 6, 1775 in Conewago (Conewago Records) 5c) Abraham Comingore was baptized March 15, 1778 in Conewago (Conewago Records) 5d) Maria Comingore was baptized August 27, 1780 in Conewago (Conewago Records) 5e) Margrieta Comingore was baptized April 27, 1783 in Conewago (Conewago Records) 5f) Johannes Comingore was baptized October 9, 1785 in Conewago (Conewago Records) 5g) Hendrick R. Cornelius has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1775 - 1784. Samuel has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1772 - 1784. This may be both Samuel and his father? Mary's brother John was appointed guardian of the children after the death of Cornelius (John Brewer Mercer Co, Ky Order Book 1, Page 190. John Brewer appointed guardian to Daniel, Cornelius, Anne and Sarah Cozine, orphans of Cornelius Cozine, deceased. March 25, 1788. Abraham Banta and Samuel Demeree, their securities.) She was captured by Pottowattomie Indians on August 9, 1790 and not released until September 14, 1795 after the Battle of Fallen Timbers. 6d) Cornelius Cozine was baptized July 13, 1783 in Conewago (Conewago Records) 7) Phoebe Brewer was born about 1755 in New Jersey. She married David Banta (son of John Hendrick Banta and Trintie Demarest) about 1776 in the Conewago Colony, PA. She married Cornelius Demaree (son of David Demarest and Magdalena Van Voorhees) about 1783 in the Conewago Colony, PA. David has tax records in Reading Township, York Co, Pa in 1780. He married Mary "Polly" (House) Salter (daughter of John House and Sarah Harbison, widow of Hezekiah Sortore (Dinah's brother)) on November 27, 1806 in Mercer Co., KY (Mercer Marriage Bonds). John has tax records in Straban Township, York Co, Pa from 1784 - 1786. John died in Shelby Co., KY in February 1822. His will names wife Polly (and her heirs), Abraham, John, Samuel, Henry, heirs of David, Garret, Daniel, Charity, Mary and Jane. There is a Shelby County, KY marriage record for Mrs. Mary Brewer and Cornelius Bice on August 26, 1823. Through various pieces of information I've found, I strongly suspect that this is John's widow. Cornelius would then be the widow of John's niece Mary Demaree (sister Susanna's child). John and Jennetje had the following children: 8a) Garret C. Brewer was baptized November 17, 1782 in Conewago (Conewago Records) and died June 16, 1860 in Pleasant, Johnson Co, IN.
