The Muncie Starpress 11/20/03 YORKTOWN - Jimmy D. Phillips, 55, Yorktown, died Wednesday morning at his residence. He was born in Stearns, Ky., the son of Nora Clark Phillips and Marcus Phillips. Jimmy had lived in the Muncie area since the 1960s. He retired from the Muncie Police Department after 20 years of service and retired from the County Weights and Measures, where he was the chief inspector. He was a member of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police), the Daleville Masonic Lodge 730 and the Moose Lodge. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He enjoyed playing golf and loved his grandchildren. Survivors include his son, Michael J. Phillips (wife: Rachelle), Yorktown; his companion, Sandy Wheat; six brothers, Hubert Phillips (wife: Ella Mae), Muncie, Gurstel Phillips (wife: Elizabeth), Muncie, Ray Phillips (wife: Frieda), Stearns, Ky., Harold Phillips (wife: Joyce), Muncie, Boyd Phillips (wife: Peggy), Trenton, N.J., and Larry Phillips, Muncie; three grandchildren, Kaitlyne Phillips, Taylor Phillips and Grant Phillips; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Boyce Phillips. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Johnny Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie, with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
