The StarPress 2/14/05 Copyright 2004 The Star Press MUNCIE - Jewell Dobbs, 89, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, February 12, 2005, after being hospitalized with a brief illness. Jewell was born in Bell Hill, Kentucky on January 11, 1916. She was the daughter of Rev. H. E. and Mertie "Coffey" Phipps. She attended schools in the Wayne County area, the last being Parmelysville High School. Jewell married Ross Dobbs on June 16, 1934. Ross and Jewell resided in the McCreary County, Kentucky area for the next 19 years where Ross was the pastor of various local churches. The family moved to Muncie in 1953. Ross and Jewell continued their church work in Muncie and eventually founded the Memorial United Baptist Church in 1959. After 38 years of being a preacher's wife, Jewell became a widow in 1982. She lived 23 years without her beloved Ross, but has now joined him once again. Jewell is survived by her four children, Vina Jean Gregory, Muncie, Rev. Carter Dobbs (wife, Carol), Muncie, Jack Dobbs (wife, Linda), Muncie, Sandra Lloyd, Corinth, TX; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; three sisters; one brother; three step-sisters; three step-brothers; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Her husband Ross, both parents, three brothers, a stepmother and three step-sisters, preceded Jewell in death. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Parson Mortuary with Pastor Carl Norris and Rev. Carter Dobbs officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Parson Mortuary on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
