The Starpress 4/07/05 MUNCIE - Carl F. New, Sr., 82, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, April 5, at Parkview Nursing Center in Muncie following an extended illness. Carl was born July 15, 1922 in McCreary County, KY, to Samuel and Laura (Black) New. He enlisted in the Army in January, 1940, and served for 5 1Ž2 years. Carl was a World War II Veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor. Carl married Ella M. Davis in Muncie on Feb. 24, 1945. Carl was employed by the Chevrolet plant of Muncie where he worked for 37 1Ž2 years. He retired July 31, 1982. Carl was a member of UAW Local 499, Avondale Credit Union and Avondale Sympathy Club. He was a member of Bethel United Baptist Church where he served as an ordained deacon. Survivors include his wife, Ella M. New; sons, Michael New (wife Sharon) of Muncie and Carl New, Jr. (wife Denise) of Muncie; two brothers, Lester New of West Harrison, IN, and Cecil New (wife Norma) of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Ethel Coffey of Mt. Sterling, KY, and Geneva Kidd of Logansport, IN; six grandchildren, Brian New of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa Mosley of Phoenix, AZ, Dawn New of Muncie, Michelle New of Anderson, Samuel New of Muncie, Sharlena New of Muncie; and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Wilburn, Roy and Homer; and two sisters Addie Worley and Elsie Keith. Services to celebrate Carl's life will be held by Rev. Hoyt Davis at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 9 at Parson Mortuary, Muncie. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory. Military rites will be provided by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
