It's the small communities that were in Pulaski, Wayne & Whitley Co., KY before McCreary Co., KY was formed that I don't know. I found a map of the Pulaski Co., KY voting precincts for the 1900 census which showed me that that Eagle, Parkers Lake, Barren Fork & Whitley City were in Pulaski Co., KY. When McCreary Co., KY was formed in the latter part of 1912 they became part of it. Oh yeah & a community called Beaver was in Pulaski Co. I'm unsure where that is and if it is now a part of McCreary. Ann - Sorry McCreary Co., KY 1st census was done in 1920 and then the 2nd one in 1930. I'd been looking at parts of the census taken from Whitley, Wayne & Pulaski before McCreary Co., KY was formed. Saying that McCreary Co., KY had a census taken in 1912 was wrong on my part. As Carolyn said McCreary County was formed in 1912 from parts of Whitley, Wayne, and Pulaski Co., KY & was named for Governor James B. McCreary. Allen - thanks. So the mine was at Fidelity & the PO was at Shoopman. Before 1912 this was a part of Wayne Co., KY. Right? Do you have any idea how far apart Fidelity & Shoopman was? Or was it in the same place/area, more or less? That's like here in Strunk (if I have it right) on the south bound trip the mail was picked up at the Silerville Depot & on the return trip it was hung in Strunk. Which is where the PO is located. We have a double track crossing on Mt. Pleasant Rd (1470 W). To me Silerville & Strunk are the same place. I'll try & remember when Marcella gets back on Sunday to ask her if I got it right. After talking to Mom I have no idea where I live. I do know the PO is in Strunk. Maybe a city block away from the PO is the Silerville Church. About a mile away from the PO going the other way is the old Silerville school house. Across the RR track (1470 W) is the Silerville Cemetery. I do know that Silerville has no zip code & Strunk does. I give up for now. Joy - I bought it from the Stearns Museum for $35. It has the employee listed, their parents & spouse if known. It has a little over 200 pages. I 've found it extremely useful. Can anyone tell me how far into what is now McCreary Co. that Wayne Co. went? I guess what I'm asking is what part of McCreary Co. was orginally Wayne Co. This would be before Dec 1912. I'm figuring that the following were located in Wayne Co., KY until McCreary Co., KY was formed. If not someone let me know. STEARNS Hemlock Barthell (Across the river is the trail to the Nancy Grave School) Comargo Worley Yamacraw -----------------Rock Creek Oz White Oak Junction -----------------Creek Branch Trace Branch Fidelity ----------Shoopman Exodus Gregory Bell Farm Exodus to Bell Farm 3.5 miles (.25 miles into TN) White Oak Junction to Co-Operative 1 mile Comargo To Blue Heron Blue Heron & Mine 18 are the same place. 3. Many of the coal camps had two names. One was the name of the mines and then there was the US Post Office. I was born at Fidelity, Ky in 1933 but I think the post office was Shoopman. This double name was also true in Perry County, Ky for at least two coal camps. Allen E. Long

    3. McCreary County was formed in 1912 from three different counties. These three were Pulaski County which extended all the way to Whitley City, Wayne County which took up all the Yamaha area and Smithtown also I believe, and Whitley Co. which extended to Pine Knot and a little beyond. 3. Sorry but the communities before the 1912 census & after the 1912 Census have me confused. The Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. employee information has some of their employees listed more than once. The obits may also have them listed as being born in a different place. It's probably the same place but called a different name. But then what do I know? Any help would be appreciated. 1. Where was Nevelsville in 1922 - Pulaski Co., KY or McCreary Co., KY? *Phillips Cemetery, Hilltop-Yamacraw (Nevelsville), McCreary Co., KY It appears that Nevelsville would have been in Wayne Co., KY before the 1912 Census. I'm a little confused - was there a Nevelsville Community on Hwy 27? 2. Going North does Keno, Pulaski Co., KY come before Nevelsville or after? 3. Earl Samuel Childers Per Employee Info. Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. was born in Bee Rock, KY. His siblings born before him were born Eagle Comm, Parkers Lake, Pulaski Co., KY & the ones after him were born in Smithtown, McCreary Co., KY. One was born in Burnside, Pulaski Co., KY. So does anyone have any idea where Bee Rock, KY is???? 4. Is Honey Bee & Bee Rock the same place?? 5. Was Hill Top, KY in Wayne Co., KY before the 1912 McCreary Co. Census??? 6. I'm assuming that Whitley City before the 1912 Census was in Pulaski Co., KY. Does anyone know if that is right? 7. Denny, KY or Denney, KY is located where? Per Employee Info. Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. - On September 12, 1913 Denney's Gap, was in Wayne Co., KY. Is this Denney, KY?? 8. Where's Delta, KY? 9. Was Co-Operative or Co-Op, KY in Wayne Co. before 1912? 10. Where is Buelli, KY? In the large book of Employee Info. Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. the same person was born in Yamacraw, KY So I'm assuming that it was Wayne Co., KY before 1912 Census & McCreary Co., KY after. Does that sound about right? 11. So if the Wolf Creek Comm. of Ritner was in Wayne Co., KY before 1912 is it still Wayne Co., KY after? 12. How close to Fidelity was Shoopman, KY? 13. Before the 1912 Census was Stearns in Wayne Co., KY? 14. How about Griffen, KY - is this Wayne Co., KY or McCreary Co., KY? If it was Wayne Co., KY is it still Wayne Co., KY in the 1912 Census? 15. Is Coopersville & Griffin the same place? Per this man's obit he was born in Wayne Co., KY. Per Employee Info. Stearns Coal & Lumber Co. he was born in Griffin or Coopersville, KY. 16. So where was Dolen, KY located? If it was in Wayne Co., KY before the 1912 Census is it still Wayne Co., KY? Sheesh, no wonder I'm confused! I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get further into this book. Kenna "Remember to the world you are just one person, but maybe to one person you are the world."
