My friends - I want to take a moment to remind our subscribers about the Jackson Purchase Surnames Website, which is maintained by our good friend Mary-Ann Vandaveer. I was told, in a message from one of our subscribers yesterday, that, of eight e-mail addresses shown for one surname, half of them were no longer valid.. This is a great tool for networking between descendants, and it is important that we keep our current e-mail addresses on that site so that contacts can be made. Some of our newer subscribers may not even be familiar with this site. If you have registered your surname at the site, and are unsure if your current e-mail address is shown, or if you need to register there for the first time, please drop by the site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kyjpsurnames/index.htm Please allow a little time for any changes or additions to be made, since Mary-Ann handles these as they come in, and, often, after I make one of these announcements, a flood of changes or new registrations may come in, which take a few days to work through. There is a link on the site to which to send the information. In another area, in the months to come, I am going to begin digitizing microfilm of unpublished records from the Jackson Purchase region, and from other parts of the country, as well(such as the "feeder states" for Kentucky. If you have particular records that you would like to see digitized(for example, "Circuit Court Records for Calloway County in the 1870's", etc.), please let me know, via private e-mail, what your preferences would be. If enough of our subscribers have needs in the same groups of records, I'll prioritize them. And, by the way, the remainder of the Graves County Circuit Court Order Books in the 1853 - 1891 time frame will be high on the list for digitization. Many of you will recall that I digitized the first of these books(Order Book G - 1853-1856))some years ago, and made it available on CD-ROM. These are the only known complete surviving county-based public records for Graves County, before the horrendous fire in December of 1887, which destroyed 99% of everything in that courthouse. They had been misfiled at the KY Archives, where I discovered them in 2000, and had them all microfilmed. Just as a bit of a personal update for our charter List subscribers who may have been wondering if I had disappeared from the face of the earth<g>, I am still very much alive. I have devoted a lot of my time to teaching various genealogical subjects through our local college here, and I am considering the possibility of seeing if it would be feasible to do some online courses in county court and appellate court research, and research in law libraries. The latter two areas are tedious work, but can be gold mines of information if "pay dirt" is found. I still host 12 mail lists, of which the JP List remains the flagship list, with over 700 of the finest subscribers of any list to which I have belonged. I also host all of the other JP county lists, excepting only the Carlisle County List. Good hunting! -B ===============================================================================================================
