    3. Hi folks, Hopefully you can help me. Family stories are that we are related to a Pierce JONES (he would be my gg uncle) and was living in Paducah with his sister Mary JONES HEWETT/HEWITT WILSON, and near his sisters Malinda JONES PETERS and Lucinda JONES JOICE/JOYCE. I found a reference in a section on City of Paducah in: Battle, J. H, W. H. Perrin and G. c. Kniffin. (1885). Kentucky: A history of the state. Chicago, IL. F. A. Battey Publishing Co. p. 94. "The ground for Oak Grove Cemetery, some thirty-six acres, was purchased April 19, 1847, at $3 per acre, Hiram SMEDLEY, J. CAMPBELL and W. McKay LAMBDIN being a committee of the council appointed for that purpose. It was surveyed and platted by Adolph MILLER. The lots were valued at $5 each. Ornamentation of the grounds began five years ago. The first grave on the ground was dug prior to its purchase for cemetery purposes, it being that of Pierce JONES (my underline), who was killed in 1837 by a man named COOKSEY. The people of the living city feel justly proud of their 'city of the dead." Now the questions: Are there records from that date? If so, where do I find them when I visit? Are there newspapers from that time? Also, where do I find these? Are there indexes, etc. of this cemetery? Who do I contact? Thanks for any help you can give me. Linda K. Jones Seattle
