My friends - As we resume posts today, we are going back to McCracken County to continue our review of the vital statistics marriage records for that county. These records cover the1852-1859 period, primarily, but there are scattered records for 1874-1878, as well as 1893-1894 and 1903-1904. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken lists can obtain the detailed information on a marriage shown in the listing below by sending a request to me. The information detail on the marriages usually includes the date of marriage, ages of groom and bride, and where each was born. As always, your continuing assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is appreciated. As an aside, from time to time I am reminded about the need to always look a little askance at family stories and legends. There is often a fragment of truth in those stories, but, over the generations, they often lose much of their truthful beginnings, since storytelling was an art form in the 19th century and those who repeated the family lore were expected to embellish it to some degree to enhance the drama. I wonder how many of us have a mental picture of, for example, the famous Kentuckian Daniel Boone as a tall, muscular man, holding a musket. Those of us old enough to remember Fess Parker as Daniel Boone on the old television series can also recall the words to the theme song of that series: "Daniel Boone was a man; yes, a big man; with an eye like an eagle and as tall as a mountain was he." Daniel Boone was actually 5 feet 8 inches tall, with red hair, and weighed between 150 and 195 pounds at various times in his life, according to his son Nathan. His short and perhaps a little heavy stature did not prevent him from performing phenomenal feats, however, and most other men of his time knew better, regardless of his stature, than to take him on in a fight. But the true nature of his physique is a far cry from the legends. Tomorrow, we will move to Calloway County. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ McCracken County - Vital Statistics Records - Marriages - 1852-1859 & Other Years - Part 37 Smith, Albert Lovelace, Josie Proctor, john W.
