Looking for any possibility.... <1866> Thomas Burton/Burden/Burtin/Burtan (various spellings) and Mary Jarvis Burton's first child Lue Burton born ca 1867 might be the first of 10 or 11 Burton children; Burton & Jarvis could have married <1866>. >1870< Thomas Burton is in the Leitchfield Grayson Co. KY 1870 Census in the HH of several men who are listed as "RR LABS." Thomas is 21; there is no info as to whether or not he is Single or Married. Also in the HH of Y. T. Pryor are Thomas Burton's two brothers, (Wm) Henry Burton, 17 and John Burton, 15; both listed as rail road laborers. There is a Levi Halensworth b NC living in this HH who also works for "rail road." Nancy Burton's was married to Levi Hollingsworth (date?); have no marriage info for Nancy Burton and Levi Hollingsworth. >1870< Thomas Burton's mother Margaret Brooks BURTON, widow of Jesse Burton, is listed in the Ohio Co. KY Census as a farmer. Also in Margaret's HH are "Mealy" (? Amelia), Mary Elizabeth (1857) and James S. Burton (1859?). Burton children missing from Margaret's HH: Elizabeth, Thomas, Wm. Henry, John, Sarah, (Mary) Susan and Nancy! Wm. ADAMS age 70 (74) is listed in this HH as a "farm hand." 1870 continued.... Thomas, Henry & John are in Ohio Co. Leitchfield. Sarah had married John Broughton ca 1867, Susan had married Emmit Quinn. There's NO info on Elizabeth or Nancy for 1870. >1872< August 5----Ohio Co. KY Caney Precinct----Thomas Burton's signature is on my GGparents marriage certf as a "witness," and on other marriage documents for his sister, my great-grandmother, Amelia E. (Permelia) Burton/Burden to marry John Clark/Clarke (b1848 VA-died 1901 KY). Amelia was days shy of being age 21 and needed permission from Margaret, etc...Both Thomas and (Wm.) Henry Burton's signatures are on statements supporting Margaret being Amelia's only living parent. Jesse Burton died ca 1863, location UNKN. >1880< Ohio Co. All of the Burton men---except Thomas Burton----and their brothers-n-law are in this 1880 Rockcastle Co. KY Census and all are coal miners. (NOTE: Martin McCarty/McCarthy listed as boarder in Margaret's HH. Nancy Burton Hollendsworth later married Martin McCarty in Rockcastle Co. KY. Have never found any marriage or death info for Levi Hollensworth/various spellings....) >1900< Ohio Co. Cromwell KY Census----Mary CALBERT, widow (bApril 1851), dtr Mary J. Burton, son James S. Burton, dtr Gay R. Burton (1893?). Mary Jarvis Burton married unknown CALBERT (Calvert, Colbert, Colvert, Albert, etc...) ca1893. The last Burton child born 1893. ALSO in Mary Calbert's HH is James A. Davis (1866 KY) and wife Amelia Burton Davis. James and Amelia m'd ca 1898. Thomas Burton drops out of the sight after 1880 Ohio Co. KY Census. There is "a" Thomas Burton/Burtan listed in the OHIO CO. KY marriage index with Mrs. Hannah Leach ca 1899. The age of this Thomas Burton is off, but we don't know whether whether "our" Thomas Burton & Mary Jarvis Burton divorced sometime after 1893 or if Thomas Burton died. We don't know when Mary Jarvis Burton married UNKN Calbert or when Calbert died--------or when Mary Jarvis Burton Calbert died.
