Hi List, In the 1910 census of the Home of the Friendless in Paducah, we find two children we are researching. Unable to find their parents but can find the children's grandmother and a few other relatives for this same census. Can anyone tell me if there are further records like probate and where they could be located for this Home and if they can be reviewed by a relative? Thank you for any help. Shirley Matthews

My friends - The folks in the McCracken County courthouse have recently placed a number of valuable records online. Some of you may already be aware of this fact, but for those who are not, I invite your attention to their web site at: http://mccrackencountyclerk.com Let's hope this will be a trend that will encompass more records, in McCracken and other JP counties, although we must remember that, for records other than deeds, marriages, and some later estate records, most of the original documents are now held in the KY Archives, which would have to be the agency to initiate such online access. I'm sure we are all grateful to those in the McCracken County who had a part in getting these records online. -B ========================================================================
Thanks to everyone for all of your wonderful replies, its nice to see there are still quite a few folks on the mailing lists. Have a wonderful week and thanks again. Robin
I am looking for a Mrs. Pat (not sure that is her first name) Gibson who is recently deceased as was living around the Ballard or Kevil Ky area before she died in Alabama where her sister resided. I have a friend with children that are related to this family and we are trying to find out who they are since they are more than likely distantly related to us as well. Since neither of thier parents are together they know very little about the family ancestry. All I have is the grandmothers information on her grandchildren being related from the other side of the family. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated in this matter. Robin Holt
I've written again so we'll see what happens next. I am trying to find someone to acknowledge that they would receive some research work on the Jones family that lived there from 1830-1900 or so. I'm downsizing my family tree notebooks :)
Does anyone know an email address for the McCracken Library in Paducah? I've written to the address that I found on the net but no one answers.
Does anyone have an email address for Bettie Tate? Thanks. M

Hi. Does anyone on this list have access to deaths in McCracken Co, KY, who can look up a record for: David B. WILSON, born c1807-1810 in Scotland (per census records), and died between 1870-1880 in [most likely] McCracken Co, KY. In 1870 he is listed with his wife Cordelia (Cora) from VA, and six of their children. By 1880 Cordelia is listed as a Widow. They lived in Paducah since abt.1857, where their daughter Kate was born. Other children are Peter, Walter, Charles, Hugh, Mary, Maggie and Mollie. Thank you, Nancy all messages are scanned with NIS 2005

My friends - Today, I want to begin posting the known burials in the cemetery which served the McCracken County Poor House and Sanitarium. Not everyone who died and who is buried in this cemetery resided in one of the two places, but may have died in such financial circumstances that the county had to arrange for burial. Most of these records contain the name of the deceased, the date of death, where died, sometimes where born, and, in some cases, the age or year of birth of the deceased, along with the cause of death. Also recorded, in most cases, was the lot and block number in which the burial occurred. In the listing below, I have included all of the pertinent statistical information. If anyone should need the burial lot and block number, contact me off list and I will check the film to see if it is shown. We will continue this series as we go along. -B ================================================================== McCracken County - Poor House & County Sanitarium Cemetery - Part 1 (AA)=African-American Johnson, Mose(AA), died 20 October 1908; born 1853 in TN Wright, Hettie(AA), died 12 Dec 1908, age 25 Anderson, Bailey, died 12 July 1906; Stillborn James, S.W., died 20 July 1909 at Riverside Hospital, Paducah. My friends - I apologize for again adding to your mail load today. I have received a number of inquiries about the difference between the digital CD version of the JP KGS maps and the hard copy(paper) version. I should have explained that in more detail in my original posting. Several years ago, I bought a collection of original printings of the KGS Series VI maps of KY counties. I had duplication masters created for each of the JP counties. From those, I have made available archival *paper* copies of individual counties which had a cost of $13.00 for *each* county, and I still have those for folks who would rather work with a paper map, than with a digital image of the map. Some of these paper maps are as large as 36" x 48". The CD version, now available, contains JPG images of *all* of the KGS Series VI maps for all counties of the JP region. In other words, there are 8 images on the CD, with each image holding a map of a different county. These are all on the CD, which is also $13.00, which is a boon, from a dollar cost standpoint, to those who can work with the maps in a digital format, right on the computer. The images can be enlarged via the software's zoom capabilities, to the point that one can almost get right down to ground level, parts of each map can be printed(or all of a county can be printed, if the zoom ratio is such that the entire map will fit on a standard letter size sheet - it will be very small though, since the originals are very large). I hope the above helps to clarify the differences. -B =================================================================
My friends - It has been brought to my attention that I failed to include my Zip Code in my address last night. The address should read; PO Box 51796, Amarillo TX 79159-1796. My apologies for the omission...... -B =======================================================================
My friends - I have spent most of this week putting the finishing touches on the KGS Series VI JP Maps in the digital version. All of it seems now to be ready, so they are now available. As a recap, these are digital JPG files of maps of each of the JP counties created in the 1920-1929 time frame by the Kentucky Geological Service. The original maps vary in size from 24" x 24" up to as large as 36" x 48". They show the landmarks(towns, rivers, streams, etc.), as well as schools, churches, roads and other such locations, a fair number of which have disappeared over the years. One of the interesting aspects of these maps is that the KGS did not attempt to update the little towns that had disappeared many years before, and they still appear on the maps. In one case, I noticed a town shown in one county that has been gone since about 1860. In addition, for those in Marshall and Calloway County, they give us a pre-Kentucky Dam view of the counties before the Dam changed the landscape on the eastern sides of the counties so drastically. As such, they are valuable to us. One area which is somewhat disappointing is that few cemeteries are shown. Many churches appear, but cemeteries were not often marked on these maps. I have calculated the costs of the digitization work, plus the costs associated with duplicating(the CD, the mini-jewel case, the labeling, the CD mailer, the cost of First Class postage, etc.). It appears that $13.00 will be the cost for the CD, which includes the postage and mailer. Since the hard copies of these maps were individually available by county for the same amount(and will continue to be, for those who prefer working with hard copy), the CD, for those who prefer digital or can use them in that format, will be a cost saver. I am not attempting to profit from this offering, but I do want to cover my costs, if possible. For those who would like to obtain one of these CD's, remittance can be sent to me at PO Box 51796, Amarillo, TX, or PayPal can be used with my e-mail address above. If this seems to be a popular item, I will continue to have the KGS Series VI maps digitized, continuing the project first across the Tennessee River to the counties just east of the JP region, and then moving further eastward by regions. I have originals of almost all of the KY county maps(which I luckily obtained in an estate sale several years ago), so things can proceed if there is sufficient interest. I hope everyone who celebrates Easter will have a pleasant one. -B =================================================================
