My friends - Several months ago, I posted the fact that arrangements were underway for Eugene Verbeet to come to Murray and present his recreation of the character of Andrew Meloan, a Revolutionary War soldier who resided, in the last years of his life, on land on which part of Murray now rests. He owned a good portion of what is now the Murray City Cemetery, and his is purportedly the first burial there, back in the 1830's. A new grave marker was erected for him there not long ago. Gene Verbeet has been presenting this recreation for 17 years. He is dressed in authentic Revolutionary War garb, and uses historically accurate facts and props in his presentation. He and I have collaborated on facts connected with Andrew Meloan in recent years. Gene will be giving his presentation to the elementary school children of Murray and Calloway County next week. He will be giving a public presentation of his fascinating recreation during the *6:00 -8:00 PM time frame on Thursday, October 4th(next week)*, at the Calloway County Public Library in Murray. I hope that as many of you as can attend will be there to witness this fine presentation. There is no charge. There will also be a special, private presentation for the descendants of Andrew Meloan, and I hope that anyone who can be present for that will contact me off-list for the details on that event and when it will occur. I believe that this is a very unique event for Calloway County and the JP region. I had planned on being in Murray most of next week, but a health matter has arisen which will prevent my being in attendance, much to my very great regret. Mary King was listed at 635 Flourney St, Paducah, McCracken in 1920-- actually she lived there for many decades under different married names, Hammond(s), Daughtery, and King showing up in the census. Since she was born in 1840 in France is it unlikely she was alive in 1930. She owned the property so I am trying to find the address to see who lived there in 1930. If you have Ancestry you can find her in the 1920 census and see those living around her, most are renters and not there in 1930. Any help is appreciated. Searching for information on the De La Van / Delavan families in the McCracken area about 1840. Edwin's son Benjamin was admitted to practice law in McCracken 16 July 1842. Another purported son, Henry, married Martha Jane Lynn in Massac Co., IL in 1848. Where did this De La Van /Delavan family come from? A marriage recorded in 1845, Massac Co., was for a Mary Delavan and James Young. Does anyone on the list know where to obtain a listing of burials in the McCormick Cemetery in Brookport Twp in Massac County, Illinois? I am researching the COLLINS surname. James T. Collins, born about 1835 in Kentucky married Martha E. ? about 1863 - 1865. On the 1850 McCracken County Census James Collins is listed with his mother and siblings, Susan, Mary Ann, and Sophrona Collins in the household of Jeremiah Elrod. James Collins died before 1900 leaving Martha Collins and her children in Massac County. Martha died in 1917 and she is buried in the McCormick Cemetery in Massac County, Illinois per her death certificate.
