My friends - Today, we are moving to McCracken County and a further examination of some of the school enrollment registers in the early part of the 20th century. Today's subject is the Lang School. In the listing below are the students enrolled in this school for the 1914-1915 school term. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken lists can obtain the full set of information for a person shown in the listing below(which usually includes the name of at least one parent and the birth date of the child[which vary from 1896 to1908]) by sending a request to me. And your continued assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is appreciated. Tomorrow, we will have the essay from Dr. Gordon Wilson which was postponed last week. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ McCracken County - School Enrollment Registers - Early 20th Century Smith, Elsie Smith Margaret Smith, Edward Smith, Everett Adcock, Morton Adcock, Clara Agnew, Elizabeth Noble, Catherine Ogilvie Jr., Hume Prine, Ruth Prine, Velma Prine, Ernest Wood Sisk, Ina Mae Sisk, Morgan Sisk, Fred Hinton, Emma Hinton, Lena Adams, Glenn Pace, Hardy Pace, Pearl Ross, Mildred Ross, Horace Mattingsley, Grover Carroll, Bailey Carroll, Louis Carroll, Albert Davis, Goebel Sanders, Hobart Sanders, Ola Sanders, Everett Sanders, Lucille Lilley, Myrtle Lilley, Mabel Jennings, Charles Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson, Harriette McCune, John McCune, James Rudolph, J.P. My friends - I hope that everyone had a very pleasant Christmas holiday and that those who travelled arrived safely(or will arrive safely)back home again. I have today converted another in in the group of several hundred "miscellaneous files" which are contained on an equal number of old 5" floppies, and it is now ready for distribution. This file contains the burials, to about 1989, in the Harmony Cemetery, adjacent to the Harmony Baptist Church, located in west McCracken County. This is a relatively small cemetery, with perhaps 75 known burials. The earliest birth year that I noted was 1850. Surnames for burials in this cemetery include Waters, Moyers, Alvey, Crenshaw, Griffin, Thompson, Pippin, Pottinger, Smith, Bobo, Dwyer, Adams, Johnson, Holland, McElya, Boldry, Oatsvill, Kalusmeier, Hopper, Carneal, Byron, Long, Owen, Davis, Campbell, Wood, Taylor and Horner. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken lists can obtain this file by sending a message to me, requesting the "Harmony Cemetery File". The file is available in rich text or Adobe Acrobat Portable Document File(PDF) formats. The file will be sent as a rich text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is requested. The file is not available in plain text format nor can it be sent in the message body of an e-mail. The complete file will be sent. Time constraints do not permit me to go into the file and extract data about individual surnames. I will be resuming normal data postings on Monday. -B ====================================================================

My friends - Today's post takes us back to McCracken County and our review of the Vital Statistics marriage records for the period 1852-1869, with some scattered items in the 1874-1878, 1893-1894 and 1903-1904 time frames. Please bear in mind that, especially in the 1850's and 1870's, these early VS records are woefully incomplete and inaccurate. Only about 40%-50% of the actual births, marriages and deaths that occurred in those years ever made their way into the VS records. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken list can obtain the expanded information on a marriage in the listing below by sending a request to me. The detailed information usually contains the date of marriage, ages of groom and bride and where each was born. In some cases, the location within McCracken County where the marriage occurred is also present. Your continuing assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is appreciated. Tomorrow on the JP List, we will have another selection from the Gordon Wilson series. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ McCracken County - Vital Statistics Records - Marriages - 1852-1859 & Other Years - Part 35 Leibel, Christian Steger, Elizabeth Leigh, J.H. My friends - In reviewing the McCracken 1850 Census file showing parties who claimed Tennessee as their birthplace, which I offered a day or two ago, I was struck by the low number of people that seemed to be shown, and there were people missing from that file whom I knew to be born in TN and living in McCracken County in 1850. As a result, I did some additional digging in these old miscellaneous files, and found that there was an additional part to this file which was on another old floppy and escaped my attention. This part contains the remainder of the file containing the individuals showing TN as their birthplace in the McCracken 1850 census. I have converted it and it is now ready for distribution. I apologize for this extra step in this particular case, but for those who requested the file and did not find someone who was born in TN, and was expected to be present in that census, they may find their party in this other part. The surnames in this addendum, as I will call it, include Kinnard, Singleton, Nolen, Hamilton, Fisher, Spranger, Roberts, Joyce, Gardiner, Boone, Wallace, Luster, Pool, Noblett, Wilson, Burks, Harris, Crogin, Culter, Saunders, Etter, Wood, Boyd, Willis, Rogers, Donnell, Lefler, DonCarlos, Thedford, McGee, Marsh, Porter, Lane, Taylor, Stone, Neves, Lovelan, Catahorn, Chandler, Lumis, Anderson, Cavat, Pursell, Key, Cheek, McKee, Caldwell, Williamson, Stephenson, Walker, Johnson, McCalla, McIntyre, Eaton, Iniss, McBride, Potas, Batts, Franklin, Bramon, Price, Travis, Bledsoe, Mason, Hutchins, Funch, Allen, Tunnage, Moss, St.John, Boneiu, Riggs, Mills, Lunch, Keith, Smith, Littell, Peters, Frysia, McFall, Croft, Cole, Ogilone, Fisk, Adkins, Fuller, Willingham, Middleton, Grose, James, Hambury, Lawson, Craft, Hamilton, Burleson, Ballard, Samuel, Violet, Steel, Yarber, Stamps, Buck, Forbush, Mayhew, Crofton, Richardson, Thornburg, Hallowell, Jones, Sherman, David, Alsop, Crabtree, Nelson, Agnew, Pitt, Perryman, Grimes and Brooks. Subscribers to the McCracken and JP lists can get this file by sending a request to me, specifying the "McCracken TN Addendum" file. The file is available in rich text and Adobe PDF formats. The file will be sent as a rich text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is specified. The file is not available in plain text format, nor can it be sent in the body of an e-mail message. The complete file will be sent, as time constraints do not allow me to go into the file and extract material about individuals. On another subject, I received, to now, only 31 expressions of interest in the Sue Munday article written by Young Allison, from our subscribership of 700+, which seems indicative of a low level of interest in that material. I will put the conversion of that item on the "back burner", and will move forward with other items directly related to the JP. I will get the Munday material converted at some point in the process as we go along. -B ===================================================================
My friends - Today, as we continue with "miscellaneous file" offerings, we are moving back to McCracken County. The file for today is one in the 1850 census "Tennesseans By Birth" series, which shows those people living in McCracken County in 1850 who claimed Tennessee as their birth state in that census. The file shows the number of the household, the names of the people in the household who claimed Tennessee as their birth state, the age of the individual and the gender of each individual. Surnames included in this file include Porter, Whitworth, Rudolph, Gholson, Francis, Williams, Boswell, Johnson, Bunch, Titsworth, Hughes, Scott, Hutchinson, Harris, Jett, Clymer, Lockridge, Newman, Atchison, Wilkins, Hill, Hinton, Kent, Smith, Morrow, Rose, Futrill, Jones, Austin, Russell, King, Dossett, Counsil, McLaddin, Dil, Hobbs, Lowry, Hall, Howell, Byrd, Nelson, Boyd, Wassy, Allen, Pace, Cornwell, Guest, Grey, McNeal, Arnol, Lynn, Gore, Reed, Minitree, Ham, Wyatt, Plumlee, Keef, Noneel, Brasher, Morrison, Roark, Blenden, Vandergriff, Odel, Dacterman, Canada, Quarles, and Morgan. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken lists can obtain this file by sending a request to me, specifying the "McCracken TN File". The file is available in rich text and Adobe PDF formats. It will be sent as a rich text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is specified. The file is not available in plain text format and cannot be sent in the body of an e-mail message. The complete file will be furnished, as time constraints do not allow me to go into the file and extract data about individuals. Tomorrow, we will look at another bio of a member of the JP judiciary. -B =====================================================================

I am seeking information on the family of GEORGE ELROD, born about 1826 in Kentucky and died between 1870 and 1880, according to census findings. On February 10, 1851, GEORGE married SUSAN COLLINS MCFADDEN in McCracken County, Kentucky. They had the following chilldren, Jerry, Thomas, Jeremiah, James, Susan, William, and Mary. SUSAN was previously married to Unknown McFadden and had one daughter, Mary in 1847. GEORGE ELROD was the son of JEREMIAH ELROD and SUSANNAH HARRIS. SUSAN COLLINS, sister to my GG-grandmother Elizabeth Rebecca Collins who married Jacob Vondach, was the daughter of Mary Unknown, and Unknown Collins. I am assuming GEORGE ELROD dies between 1870 and 1880; he is on the McCracken County census for 1870 and 1880 I find SUSAN ELROD living in Ballard County, widowed with her son William; SUSAN is living with her sister Maryann Collins Myers. I would like to know who SUSAN COLLINS parents were, where the family lived in McCracken and where they are buried. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated and I will share any info that I have. Jo Pace JoPace46@comcast.net

My friends - Today's post moves us to McCracken County, as we continue our review of the Vital Statistics marriage records for that county in the 1852-1859 and 1874-1878 time frame, with a few in the 1890's. McCracken kept some vital statistics records beyond the norm in the 19th century, and as a result, we do have a few in the 1890's and in the 1903-1904 time frame for that county. They are not, by any means, complete, nor should the accuracy be considered infallible, especially in the mid-19th century items, as we know that these records are woefully incomplete and often inaccurate. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken lists can obtain the full dataset for a marriage shown in the listing below by sending a request to me with the names of the groom and bride for which the dataset is needed. These datasets usually include the age of bride and room, the date of the marriage, and the birthplace of each party. Consents and bonds are not a part of these vital statistics records. Your continuing assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is always appreciated. Tomorrow, we will look at another item in the Kentucky Lawyers series. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ McCracken County - Vital Statistics Records - Marriages - 1852-1859 & Other Years-Part 34 Handcock, Jacob G. My friends - I have now finished responding to all of the requests for the 1860 Calloway County Mortality Schedule. It did not quite break the record for the number of requests for a single item, but it was close - the record is 367. This item chalked up a total of 349. I have been asked by a number of subscribers if I have Mortality Schedules for the other counties in the JP. I do have all of the 1860 schedules for the 8 counties in the JP, and I may have a few of the counties for other years. I will convert these files as we go along and make them available. Today, we are returning to McCracken County and our review of the Vital Statistics birth records. It is probably wise for me to again remind us all, as I do from time to time, that these early VS records are woefully incomplete and inaccurate. Only about 40% of the actual births, marriages and deaths which occurred in these counties ever found their way into the record books. KY was a pioneer in VS registration, as it was the first state west of the Alleghenies to pass VS legislation, in 1851. But the county clerks despised the VS law, and spent years trying to get it repealed, which was successful in 1861. Another law was passed in 1873, and we have VS records for 1874-1878, but again the clerks were successful in getting that legislation repealed. Not until the act of 1911 did KY get a VS law that "stuck". So use VS records with caution. If any other reliable record form exists which gives different information in an individual from that in a VS record, my suggestion would be to place the greater weight on the other source. Subscribers to the JP and McCracken lists can obtain the full dataset for a birth shown in the listing below by sending a request to me. These datasets usually include the date of birth, the gender if not obvious, and the name of the father and maiden name of the mother. Occasionally, the record will also reflect the location within the county where the birth occurred(such as Paducah). As always, your continuing assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is appreciated. From: Janice R Freeman mcdade-dna@juno.com To: ALL McDADE Descendants Announcing: McDADE-DNA Project Visit: the Sept McDade Clan Davidson home page at mcdade.bravepages.com and go to the: McDade Surname DNA Project page under Table of Contents If you have questions, contact me at McDADE-DNA@juno.com You can read more about DNA Testing through the Links at mcdade.bravepages.com or FamilyTreeDNA.com. We are inviting Y O U to participate in our McDADE-DNA Project which we are expecting to be a valuable asset to our paper trail research to show how our various McDADE lines throughout the world may be connected thru : 1. your direct participation if you are a direct line McDADE male descendant (direct male in your McDADE line all the way back to your earliest known McDADE ancestor, including yourself) by participating in the DNA testing. OR 2. your indirect participation (because you are or became a male descendant of a McDADE daughter at some point in your McDADE line OR are a McDADE daughter) by finding the fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins that are direct line male McDADE descendants in your family and urging them to participate under 1. above. First, if it is at all possible, please participate in the 25 marker test as this gives us a much better analysis of the known, possible, or potential relationships. Each and every participant is an important link in connecting our various lines whether our ancestor was an early arrival in the 1600's or 1700's or a later arrival in the 1800's or 1900's in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA, etc. Our ancestors may have come directly from Scotland or via Ireland, but with McDADE as the primary spelling, we are probably all cousins in one way or another. You may contact me at any time if you have questions. There is no medical connection with any of this, just a check on the male DNA markers that are passed father to son almost intact for many generations, with an occasional mutation. It is especially important to have a male participate (regardless of age) if the male is the only or one of two male McDADE descendants of a father, grandfather or great grandfather. Unfoutunately, the daughters can not do this for this particular easy, efficient, and economical test. I hope you will participate in the launching of this great project for our McDADE's everywhere. Please inform others you feel should be contacted or send me names, e-mail addresses, and or snail addresses and phone numbers for other McDADE kin. I can't wait to see how our markers reveal our potential relationships, especially if many of you will select the 25 plus marker DNA test.
