    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Moore Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WBB.2ACI/3016 Message Board Post: Does anyone know anything about Samuel Moore & Sarah Griffith and their descendants? Samuel Moore and Sarah Griffin were married Dec 1803 in Mason Co. Kentucky. There is a Samuel Moore in the 1810 census in Mason County, Kentucky with 4 people in his household. Maybe 2 male and 2 females. There are also two Daniel Moore's in the census on consecutive pages. I have scanned copies of each census page. This is just a guess as to Samuel being John Sherman's father. There were three Flaugher sisters who married 3 Moore brothers, John Sherman, Isaac and Samuel. John Sherman Moore's brother, Samuel, has been referred to as Samuel Moore, Jr. in some records, so I surmised that their father's name may have been also Samuel. I looked at OneWorldTree under Diana Moore. Her John Sherman Moore is listed as being born in Kentucky in 1805. Also, both a Daniel and a Samuel Moore are found in 1780 Elizabeth Twp, Essex Co, NJ, along with a John, John, Fr, Jonathan and Enoch Moore. http://www.altlaw.com/EDBALL/essx1780.txt PRE-1790 CENSUS ESSEX CO., NJ 1780 ====================================================================== SNDX ----NAME---- ---- TOWNSHIP---- PAGE TYPE M600 MOORE, Daniel ELIZABETH TWP 127 M600 MOORE, Elizabeth ELIZABETH TWP 127 M600 MOORE, Enoch ELIZABETH TWP 126 M600 MOORE, John ELIZABETH TWP 127 M600 MOORE, John Jr. ELIZABETH TWP 127 M600 MOORE, Jonathan ELIZABETH TWP 127 M600 MOORE, Samuel ELIZABETH TWP 126 Essex Co., New Jersey is where John Jackson Moore #140 died. He is one of my Y-DNA matches’ ancestors. I don’t have any books on Mason Co., Kentucky. I wish I had looked last summer when I was there. I do have several books on Brown Co. I have three books of records on marriages in Brown Co. Ohio. One covers from 1818-1850. The other covers marriages from 1851-1850. I will have to go through my other books. I have another that covers from 1818-1835. I have another book that cover earlier marriage that go back to this time period, but it covers the entire state. I will look and see if I can find them in there. They were not there. I have purchased a number of books about Brown County. But these four are not much help. I looked in two books of wills from Brown Co., Ohio. There is a Samuel Moore whose will was administrated in 1834. It is docket # 6949. Catherine Moore was the administrator. I looked in several others of my Brown Co. books and nothing in them. On page 163 of the book, History of Brown County, Ohio 1883 by Beers, I find reference to Daniel Moore. An Elizabeth Moore (wife of Aaron Pence) is mentioned as being the daughter of Daniel and Lizzie Davidson Moore, of Virginia, who settled in Adams Co, Ohio in 1797. Samuel died in 1815 and was a soldier in war of 1812. They had 13 children. None by name of John. This Pence family, which Elizabeth Moore married into, is married into the Flaugher family. Samuel and Elizabeth Moore Pence’s son married Naomi Flaugher, who is Jacob Flaugher’s daughter. This information is on page 174 of the same book. Naomi Flaugher married Daniel Pence 28 Dec 1854. She was born in Huntington Township, Brown Co., Ohio. He was born Aug 1830 in Sprigg Twp, Adams Co., Ohio. Her father, Jacob’s father was Adam Flaugher. Adam Flaugher is Sarah Ann Flaugher’s father. Sarah Ann Flaugher married our John Sherman Moore. Sarah Ann Flaugher and Naomi Flaugher ! are 1st cousins. Their common ancestors are Adam Flaugher and Catherine Ann Hidler. I think this Moore family is tied into ours. I have an Enoch Moore in my database that was born in 1768 and died 1822. He married Elizabeth Harris. Their children were Nathaniel, Enoch, John, and Edward. Enoch’s brothers were Cornelius, John, and Amos. Enoch’s father was Nathaniel, b. 1735, d. 1798 and his mother was Eleanor Van Brunt. Nathaniel’s father was Captain John Moore, b. 1715, d. 3 September 1768 who was married to Keziah Phillips. Cap. John Moore’s father was Nathaniel Moore b. 14 Mar 1687 in Newtown, Long Island, New York. His father was Cap. Samuel Moore born abt. 1645 and died in 1738, his father was Rev. John Moore, born in 1619 in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, England. He died 17 September 1657 in Newtown, Long Island. He married Margaret Howell about 1645. These are the only two Enochs that are in my database. They would have my Y-DNA. I will have to look in a book that I have to see if they lived in New Jersey. The book, First Census of Kentucky 1790, by G. M. Brumbaugh, M.D. lists only two Samuel Moore’s in Kentucky and no Daniel Moore’s in Kentucky. One of the Samuel Moore’s is living in Fayette Co. and the other in Lincoln Co., Kentucky.
