    1. Re: Wallingford-Applegate
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Wallingford, Cooper, Applegate Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WBB.2ACI/2950.1.1.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Judith, As I mentioned in a previous posting, Jesse Cooper and Mary Applegate were married in Mason Co, KY. A transcription of their marriage bond, albeit incorrect, is available on the Mason Co Genweb site. Their daughter Mary married Jacob Richards in Mason Co as well. Jacob and Mary moved to Indiana along with the other Coopers & Wallingfords, no doubt. Another daughter of Jesse & Mary, Malinda Cooper Jenkins, died in Ohio County. Her parents are listed on her death certificate as Jesse Cooper and Mary Applegate. Malinda was born in Maysville, KY per the record. I too have seen different dates of death for Mary Wallingford Cooper. I have a cemetery book from Dearborn Co, IN. It includes Riverview Cem, nr Aurora. The information was taken from the cemetery's record books and not from the tombstones. The original books include the names of the parents, when known. Both Mary Cooper & Amanda Cofield are buried there. Amanda's father's name is listed Joseph Wallingford and Mary's father's name is listed as Wallingford--no first name. This backs up both the family tradition and the death record you found for Mary Cooper. The date of death for Mary matches exactly what you report from the death record. According to a biography of John Wallingford Cofield, son of Robert & Amanda, he was born in Crittenden Co, KY and moved to Indiana with his parents. At the time of his birth (l1826), Crittenden Co did not exist as such, rather, it was Livingston Co. I have searched the marriage records of Livingston Co several times for the marriage records of Basil Cooper & Mary Wallingford and Robert Cofield and Amanda Wallingford. I have also searched the adjacent Illinois counties to no avail, (family tradition states Robert & Amanda were married in Shawneetown, IL about 1826). In 1820, a Joseph Wallingford was living in Gallatin Co, IL. His household included children the right age to be Mary & Amanda (as well as the other children). By Dec 1824, Joseph had returned to Mason Co where he married Susan Conway. I have not determined when he died but Susan was there in 1850. Unfortunately, there is no record of a will for this Joseph, nor have I found any relevant deed records to ind! icate he owned land, anywhere. Another child of Joseph and Jean, allegedly, was John Wallingford. John was born ca 1804 and married Ellen Cooper on 20 Jan 1830 in Mason Co, KY by Walter Warder. The bondsman was none other than Jesse Cooper. There was no relationship indicated on the bond nor is there evidence of Jesse having to give his consent for Ellen to marry. Of course, if she were of age, her father's consent would not have been necessary. John and Ellen were living in Dearborn Co in the 1830s when they were busy buying and selling land. They eventually settled in Crittenden Co, KY where they both died. There certainly are a lot of coincidences among these people! By the way, Joseph Wallingford & Jean/Jane Thornton were married in Adams Co, OH in 1801. Somewhere buried on my desk is a copy of a page from a compilation of Adams Co marriages. I remember reading that the early marriages for Adams Co (before 1803, I believe) were recorded in the deed books instead of separate marriage registers. Should you write the courthouse for the original, this tidbit may be helpful to the Recorder's Office. Thanks for the link to the church site. I'll check it out. Darryn
