Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WBB.2ACI/2950.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: My husband is a descendant of Basil Cooper's son Jesse Hamilton Cooper, and I have also been trying to untangle all of these Cooper and Wallingford connections in Kentucky, and in Dearborn and Ohio County Indiana, trying to find proof of Jesse Cooper's marriage to Mary Applegate, and Basil Cooper's marriage to Mary Wallingford. If Jesse Cooper was married to Mary Applegate, then their son Basil Cooper married his second cousin, since Mary Applegate was a first cousin to Joseph Wallingford, the father of Basil's (probable wife) Mary Wallingford. Another piece of circumstantial evidence that ties these families together come from the records of the Hartford United Methodist Church in the tiny village of Hartford, Ohio County, Indiana. Both Basil Cooper and Robert Cofield are listed as founding members of this church. They are likely brothers-in-law, married to Wallingford sisters Mary and Amanda (daughters of Joseph and Jane Thornton Wallingford). The church is still in operation, and they have a website: http://www.gbgm-umc.org/hartford/about_us.html A few more tangles from my notes: Cooper researchers theorize that Jesse Sr. Cooper (who may have married Mary Applegate), was the brother of Thomas Cooper (born 1793), whose (probable) daughter, Mary Jane Cooper married Samuel Wallingford (son of Joseph and Jane Thornton Wallingford), and whose son Jesse Cooper (born 19 Dec 1827, not to be confused with Basil's son Jesse born 12 Feb 1835) married Margaret Cofield (daughter of Robert and Amanda Wallingford Cofield). In the census records, all these families are neighbors, so it's not hard to figure they are cousins as well, probably a couple times over.... I'm delighted that other people are working on (or at least near) these lines.
