    1. Re: [KYMASON] William Thomas>Fayette Co/Mason Co., KY
    2. Yes,Mason Co.Ky In 1779,the Va government finially passed a Va Land law rewarding "Corn right improvers" with a free 400 acres at their corn right, and,if vacant, an improver could buy 1000 acres adjoining. At that time,Va also claimed SW Pa-WV pan-handle,and they sent 1 team of Va land commisioners there, where many were so rewarded, but almost no one got the 1000 acres adjoining. In Ky,it was much more common to buy that adjoining 1000 acres. A CORNRIGHT WAS 1 ACRE OF CORN,AND THE ERECTION OF A LOG Cabin. In fact, sometimes the cabin was 4 trees felled to criss-sross. My colony seized ,by muscle, from one Campbell's tennet,in 1773,at Weirton,WV. Corn right improvements were made on Lawrence Creek by 1775-76. Simon Kenton'sfort was the earliest on Lawrence Creek, followed by Washington,Ky of Rev Wm Wood, and surveyor Arthur Fox. The winter of 1779-1780 was a very bad one, with the Ohio River freezing over, haltig migration by boat. The arrivial of the Va land commisioners at a fort strained the ability of the fort to feed and house claimiants. The colonies were also gripped by run-away war time inflation just then. Thus, you hear of huge prices in inflated money, beig paid for a bushel of corn that winter-spring. To lessen the strain,THE Va land commisioners allowed 1 man to represent many. "
