    3. How would I go about getting a death certificate for my great-grandfather, who died in Mason County in 1888? I have visited the Mason County Museum and have even found his gravesite in Locust Grove Cemetery in Dover. But have been unable to get a more exact date -- just 1888. Would the information be available at the Mason county courthouse? It may be a long time before I get back there again (I'm in Pittsburgh). Is there anyone there that would lookup the information and how do I contact them? I know there are people who will get copies of death certificates, but I need to know more than just the year he died. Would appreciate any suggestions. 3. County records do exist for Mason County. These records are meticulous and thorough. I've found several ancestors from the mid 19th century. 3. Dear Richard, Do tell where you found all of the meticulously kept death records. I haven't found much of anything for the 1880s at all. I have a copy of this book - from the courthouse records: Mason County Death Records, by Frances Terry Ingmire published by Ingmire Publications, St. Louis, MO, 1984 They only have 1852-1859, a few for 1874, and then it skips to 1904.
