Surnames: Moore, Flaugher, Carter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WBB.2ACI/3009 Message Board Post: Here are some places I did research while in Northern Kentucky and Southern Ohio. Maysville, Kentucky: I stayed the night in the Ramada Inn (good accommodations for the price, -$51 plus tax). Maysville Probate Court, next to the Sheriff’s office. Maysville has a Museum, which contains a genealogy research facility. It is open Mon.- Sat., 9-4 Brown County Court House in Georgetown, Ohio. We first went to the Georgetown, Brown County Court House. The genealogy records are not in the Old Court House, but are in a new building behind the Rent-to-Own store. However, they have no marriage bond records. They told us that years ago they gave them to the Mormons that were in the courthouse photographing old documents. We found a map of Brown County for $2.25 in the drug store across the street from the Old Court House. I think you can get one for free at the courthouse somewhere. We got a free map of Mason County, Kentucky from the Circuit Court Judges office in Mason County when we were there. After our research in the Brown County government records we went to the Brown County Public Library in Georgetown. We found very little helpful genealogy information there. To make matters worse, the staff was very rude and not helpful at all. This library is pretty much a waste of time. The Ripley Public Library is on the opposite end of the spectrum. We went there Saturday morning. Their library is beautiful and their staff goes out of their way to help. This library is full of genealogy information. It is in downtown Ripley, and open Mon-Sat. 10:00 to 4:00 (they may be open on Sundays too). This library also has all the old Ripley papers on microfiche that has more ads, etc. There is a very nice lady who is full of information and owns and operates the flower shop across from the Ripley Library. The Brown County Genealogy Society research and museum facility in downtown Georgetown, 200 West Grant Avenue, in (on the corner of Cherry and Apple Streets. It is located across the street from the Old Court House in the Old County Jail building. The door is on the side with the driveway. You can contact them by calling: Dorothy Henton (937) 444-3521, Ann Kenney (937) 378- 2582, or Lvera Sipelt (937) 378-6413. The lady minding the genealogy society’s library was helpful. Go to the Ripley Museum. They are extremely helpful. They also have a newsletter that they put out called "The Lantern". Their address is Ripley Heritage, Inc., PO Box 176, Ripley Ohio, 45167, phone (937) 392-4660, web site: www.ripleymuseum.org.
