It's sometimes really hard to find a pre-1911 death record in KY. Record keeping was really spotty in the 1800s. Your best bet will probably be church records or newspaper obits - there is a slim chance that you'll find death records at a county level, for some counties, for the 1890s. http://history.ky.gov/Research/FAQs_Vital_Statistics.htm Before 1911: The government of the Commonwealth of Kentucky did not keep birth and death records prior to 1852. Researchers requiring vital records before 1852 should check other sources, including family records, bible records, church records, obituaries, or cemetery records. Search the KHS Library Catalog to find publications that document these kinds of early records, and check family sources as described in the Tracing Family History page. Birth, death, and marriage records generally exist in county registers for the 1852-1861 and 1874-1878 time periods. Some counties also kept births, deaths, and marriages for a few years in the 1890s and the early 1900s. Legislation governing how vital records are currently kept in Kentucky was first enacted in 1910 (Acts of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, 1910, Chapter 37, "An act to establish a Bureau of Vital Statistics ... ").
