I'm guessing that the town near which Newlander's tobacco farm was located is Vanceburg, KY., the county seat of Lewis County. Vanceburg is about 30 miles east of Maysville, along the Ohio River. Kentucky is known for Burley tobacco, and, traditionally, Maysville has been the world's second largest Burley tobacco market. To my knowledge, there have never been tobacco sales in Vanceburg, at least not in recent memory. Since this Newlander is in a collateral line, I have not done any research beyond obtaining the death certificate from the state, and determining that the funeral home where his body was held before shipment back to Chicago no longer exists. I'd like to find any documents relating to his purchase of the land (perhaps in partnership with Louis Wolf aka Louis Newlander) or long-distance management of the tobacco farm -- what should be my next step?
