Richard Ritter b: Feb. 29, 1760 in Baltimore Maryland to Anthony Thomas Ritter and Elizabeth Hook. With his wife (unknown) and children(possibly two), he journeyed to Mason Co., Kentucky in 1790. He married his second wife, Sarah Anno on December 30, 1797 in Maysville, Kentucky. Sarah's parents were Joseph and Esther Anno. Richard and Sarah had five children: John, Samuel, Harriet, Elizabeth and Anno. In 1833, Richard Ritter moved to Menard county, Illinois. He died on sept. 18, 1843 and is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Menard, Illinois. His son, Anno, handled his estate. John Ritter,born Dec. 30, 1799 in Mason Co., Kentucky. His first wife was Malinda Watkins who was born ~1814 in Virginia. Her family later moved to Illinois. They were married on Feb. 15, 1831 in Menard (Sangamon) Co. IL. They had four children: Richard A born ~1832., twins: Sarah E. & Harriet, and Cynthia all born in Illinois. He married his 2nd wife, Hannah Elliot on July 1, 1841. The family settled in Havana Illinois in the early 1840's. John's siblings were Samuel, Harriet, Elizabeth and Anno. Richard A. Ritter married Janene(Jane) Mariah Rule born ~1839 in Ohio on November 6, 1856 in Illinois. He fought for the North in the Civil War. He enlisted as a Captn. Aug 2, 1861. He joined Company A, 28th Inf. Regiment, Illinois on Aug 16, 1861. On April 21, 1862 he promoted to Lt. Colonel. On May 10, 1865, he promoted to Full Colonel. He received has Civil War Pension as an invalid on 2-15-1879. His Civil War swords are still in the family. One of the swords is engraved with " We will never surrender". During the Civil War, his regiment moved from Illinois to Missouri. So, the family ended up settling in Sedalia, Missouri. There his occupation was a merchant. Richard A. Ritter Jane M. Rule Ritter had two children: Alice M. Ritter born ~1859 in Illinois and Richard H. Ritter born 1868 in Missouri. Richard H. Ritter married Carrie Alice Babcock ~1905 in Missouri. They had three children: Richard Mott, Alice J. and George Downing. Richard Mott Ritter married Anna Agnes Evanchuck and the family tree continues on.... On Ancestry.com, please look up Malinda Watkins. Her parents were Thomas Watkins and Mary Polly Greene.
