It was started about 1820, and was the opldest manufacturing business in Ky until it closed just a short time ago. The Company name was "January & Wood". It was owned by A. M. January, of Huguenot origin (originally "Janvier"), and his descendants, the Adair family, of Irish origin. Other January descendants include the Cochrans, Dukes, Fords, and Hendricksons. The Cochran family at one time owned the municipal water works, the Dukes once owned the city transit/bus company, and the Hendricksons owned the 7-up bottling works. The most illustrious member of the family was probably Circuit Judge and US Congressman, Andrew McConnell January Cochran (AMJ Cochran). The January family and descendants were founding members of the First Presbyterian Church in Maysville, and the descendants are still pillars of the Church, today. The family home is directly across the street from the Church and wa! s!> built in> 1835, I think. The January/Cochran/Duke/Ford line owns the home. "Edgemont Yarn", an Adair family enterprise, is an offshoot of "January & Wood", and still in business as far as I know. >>Kathy Hines <khines1@qwest.net> wrote:This is the family that you are after?
