I have a link to Mason Co through the marriage of WATKINS Charles and LITTLEJOHN Jane on 30-Oct-1821. I'd appreciate any additional info on the LITTLEJOHN family or the WATKINS family. I'm willing to fund a small amount of local research if it seems appropriate. R.W. Shore Virginia
Hi R.W., The Mason County Museum keeps surname files and updates them periodically. You might want to contact them and ask them for copies of the material they have in the WATKINS and LITTLEJOHN files. http://www.masoncountymuseum.org/articles/home.asp Kathy in MN "R.W. The Watkins family was very prominent and well-to-do in Maysville, owning significant and well-located commercial properties downtown. To the best of my knowledge, the last surviving member of the family was Amelia Watkins Lane, who died over 20 years ago. Although she had some distant cousins in New York, being childless, as was her late brother, William C. Watkins, she left the bulk of her estate to the local Knights of Columbus, St. Patrick's School, and the Diocese of Covington. There are, or were, some family pictures of the Watkins family hanging upstairs at Knights of Columbus Council #1377 in Maysville (the Watkins family home), as well as some pictures of William Watkins in storage at Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1564, also in Maysville. He was a longtime officer there, and I think Bill and Amelia's father was a charter member when the Aerie was formed in 1907, in which case his name is on the charter, which I think hangs in the Aerie meeting room. I hope t! his is helpful. "R.W. Shore" <bob@chimneystones.us> wrote:I have a link to Mason Co through the marriage of WATKINS Charles and LITTLEJOHN Jane on 30-Oct-1821. I had a researcher at the Mason Co museum do a bit of digging. She couldn't find any clear link between my ancestor Charles and the WATKINS family that you're describing. Thanks for the help, though. -----Original Message----- From: ben hawkins [mailto:captnemo1958@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, October 10, 2005 4:47 PM To: KYMASON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYMASON-L] LITTLEJOHN or WATKINS 1821 The Watkins family was very prominent and well-to-do in Maysville, owning significant and well-located commercial properties downtown.
