    1. Re: [KYMASON-L] Gray family of Kentucky
    2. Nathan, do you know of other Stewarts with Joseph in 1790? I have a William Stewart who married Catherine Poisal, likely around Martinsburg WV, about that time. Their son William N. Stewart was apprenticed in Mayslick, Mason, Ky in 1801. Martinsburg in nearly in PA, so they definitely could have come down the river. Thanks for any help you can provide. Any idea who Joseph's parents were or where they came from? Bob Stewart >>Dear Jim: I have been following your emails on the Gray family with interest. The Grays and the Stewart family of Brown, Adam and Mason counties were related through early marriage. Matthew Gray and Joseph Stewart are contemporaries. I believed the Grays and Stewarts knew each other before they arrived at Limestone...probably in Pennsylvania. I believe Joseph Stewart was in the Tenmile Country, possibly at Morgan Township, Washington County (at that time) at least by 1784. Our family history says the Stewarts joined four other families and journeyed by keel boat from Braddock, Pa. to Limestone in the Spring of 1790. I have wondered if the Grays were one of those families. Joseph Stewart's daughter, Mary Stewart married John Gray in Mason County in 1797. Their first child and son was named Joseph Stewart Gray. That family tradition of daughters using the Stewart name as a middle name for one of their children still holds today. My name is Nathan Stewart Brown. I look forward to hearing from you, Stewart
