In researching my STRODE lineage in Mason County, I keep finding Don Juan STRODE; however, I've been unable to connect him to anyone in the family. I'm hoping that someone will be able to tell me how and where he fits. To date this is what I've learned of the illusive Don Juan: Don Juan STRODE - born ca. 1832, KY, most likely the son/o Don Juan STRODE [b. ca. 1802, KY] & Minerva ? [b. ca. 1814, OH] The elder Don Juan appeared in the 1850 census, East Maysville, Mason Co., age 48, a drayman with wife Minerva, age 36; Malissa, age 16; James and John, both age 13; Philip, age 10; Amanda and Charles, both age 8; George T., age 5; Hannah A., age 1; and Charles BRITTER ?, also age 1. Don Juan, the younger, appeared in 1850 also in East Maysville, age 18, a blacksmith in the Wm. W. CLANAHAN household. John Don Juan STRODE md. 1) Mary Jane SHEPPARD, 12 May 1853, East Maysville, Mason Co. Mary Jane died 2 Feb 1857 of consumption. 2 children were born to Don Juan & Mary Jane: 1. Alice STRODE - b. Feb 1853, Maysville, Mason Co., KY / d. 22 Feb 1917, Campbell Co., KY / md. William ADAMSON, 28 Aug 1872. Alice, age 6, appeared in her father's household in East Maysville, in 1860, but with her maternal grandparents, John A. & Elizabeth (Lizzie) SHEPARD, in 1870, in Maysville. 2. George STRODE - b. 21 Jan 1856, East Maysville, Mason Co., KY. George, age 4, also appeared in his father's household in East Maysville in 1860. In 1880 George W. STRODE, age 25, a farm laborer, appeared in the Frances M. Davis household in Orangeburg, Mason Co., KY; and in 1910, as a 54-year-old single farmer, he appeared in Coahoma Co., Mississippi. Don Juan STODE md. 2) Lucinda BURRIS, 1 Aug 1859, Mason Co., KY. There were apparently no children born of this union. Don Juan, a blacksmith, age 27, & Lucinda STRODE, age 20, appeared in the 1860 census in East Maysville with his dau. Alice, age 6, and his son George, age 4, by his previous marriage to Mary Jane SHEPPARD. Also in the same household are James STRODE, a blacksmith age 23, and Charles STRODE, a blacksmith age 17, who appear to be the sons of the elder Don Juan STODE and most likely the younger Don Juan's brothers. In 1870 Don Juan STRODE appeared in the census for Coahoma Co., Mississippi. [This is the same place where son George was found in 1910] By 1870 Don Juan , now age 37, has apparently married a 3rd time to Elizabeth ?, age 27 and a native of Mississippi. No others are enumerated in his household in 1870. To date this is all I have learned of the illusive Don Juan. I would appreciate any assistance in learning the father of the elder Don Juan, b. ca. 1802, KY, and tying this family to the rest of the Mason County, KY STRODE family.
