I have posted before, but since this board seems to be so active this month, I am trying again. The 1880 census shows my gggrandfather, John Frank Donovan, was born in 1826 in Mason Co., KY. I can find absolutely nothing more in KY about him. If anyone has anything about Donovans in KY, I surely would appreciate the info. Thanks, Jeannie

There is currently a John Donovan among the Ewing Donovans, he's my age, late 40s. But I don't know if he's related to your John Donovan or not. --- Kathy Hines <khines1@qwest.net> wrote: > Hi Jeannie, > > Have you done a "Free Find" search at: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~kymason > for Donovan and Donevan and Donoven? > > I got 28 hits for the Donovan spelling alone. > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~kymason/1850index.txt > 0003a.gif Donovan . There were several families of Donovans in the area. A prominent Catholic family in Maysville, who owned lots of downtown commercial property; a Protestant family from Ewing, Fleming Co, KY, many of whom are still around. One of their descendants owns a B-n-B in Flemingsburg; and the Protestant family from Sardis, now deceased, whose family included Dr. Herman Lee Donovan, who was president of the University of Kentucky, and for whom the Donovan Scholarship was named.
