No info, but what a pleasant coincidence! My daughter's name is Mahala. She was named for my Dad's great-aunt, Mahala Hawkins Shields, born 1856, died 1933, the daughter of Moses R. and Martha Nickell Hawkins, and wife of William Shields. People always comment, saying what a pretty and unusual name my daughter has, to which I reply that the name was quite popular for little girls in Ky in the early and mid-19th century. There were several Mahalas in both my mother's and father's families.
