Salem Methodist Church is closer to Robertson County than Bracken County. It's not particularly close to Minerva at all. It's close to Sardis and Shannon to the south, and Germantown to the north. khines1@qwest.net wrote:This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I was perusing some of the tax lists for the 1840s in Mason Co., KY recently. As you know, they have columns for counting the amounts of various assets for taxation. Some columns are for particular luxury items -- one year they had a column specifically for "Billiard tables". But one column seemed unusual: "Children between five and sixteen years old". This did not include slaves, who were counted separately, but rather the property owner's own children. Anyone know the purpose of this count? Was it possibly used as an exemption of some sort? If this is him, he was probably born somewhere in KY. Birth records weren't usually kept at that early. Have you looked for an obit for him? 1850 United States Federal Census > Indiana > Parke > Green Enumerated the 19th day of Sept, 1850 813 813 Benjamin McIntosh, 46, m, Farmer, Ky Eliza, 44, f, Va, can not read or write Benjamin, 15, m, Farmer KY John, 13, m, KY, attended school Elizabeth, 11, f, KY, attended school Henry, 10, m, KY Susan, 7, f, KY Zachariah L., 3, m, KY George, 17, m, Farmer, KY There's an Elizabeth McIntosh and family on page 265 of the KY Mason co. census for 1810. That's quite likely your Benjamin's mother. Looks like she was between 26 and 45 years old and had two young boys under ten, a boy between 10-16, a girl under 10, and a slave. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kymason/data.html Kathy nancy2yu@tampabay.rr.com wrote: > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: McINTOSH > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WBB.2ACI/2965 > > Message Board Post: > > Married in 1834 in Mason County, KY. to Eliza Waddle (also spelled Waddell in some postings). > > I have been trying for weeks to find out where Benjamin was born.
