    2. Thanks for such a great note of information. I'm not sure I'm familiar with the Osborne's which you have mentioned. I know that my Mother's family (Osborne) first settled in Virginia in 1619. Daniel Worsham Osborne married Patsey Collier and settled on Tuchahoe ridge near Dover in Mason County. One of his sons was John W. Osborne and then my Great Grandfather was Simeon W. Osborne who moved to Daviess County Kentucky. I have John Watkins family bible and from all accounts with which I am familiar, they belonged to the Christian Church. However, there may have been a Christian Church closer to their home in Dover. Again, thank you. Larry

    3. There is a Dover Christian Church in Dover, but I'm not sure whether it's affiliated with the Disciples or not. Also, very close to Tuckahoe Road is the Lawrence Creek Christian Church in Moransburg, also not affiliated with the Disciples as far as I know. However, both of these Churches are very old and were probably around before the schism in the Campbellite movement which resulted in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Independent Churches of Christ/Christian Churches (which are actually 2 or more sects - one permitting musical accompaniment, the other not). In addition, there's a Highland Christian Church out that way (Fern Leaf), but I think it's a newer congregation, and it's definitely NOT affiliated with the Disciples. Unfortunately, I do not have contact numbers on any of these congregations, but you might check with the Ledger-Independent newspaper to see if it does (www.maysville-online.com). Come to think of it, I did go to college with a Jen! nifer Osborne from out around Minerva, Ky, which is close to Dover. Have no idea where she is now, though. Also, on the northwest end of Mason County, the area you're interested in, and in neighboring Bracken County, there are "Osburns". Maybe the spelling has changed over the years. 3. By the way, Coralie Jones Runyon Jones (after the death of her husband, Dr. Harold Runyon, she married Earle D. Jones, the legendary Maysville basketball coach, educator, and administrator, for whom Jones Intermediate School is named) is still very much alive, and a much renowned retired music educator from the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, Maysville Independent, and Mason County Schools. 3. The late Dr. George Osborne's family have belonged to First Christian Church in Maysville for years. They are the only family of Osbornes of which I am aware to belong to the First Christian Church in Maysville in the latter half of the 20th Century. Dr. Osborne was not originally from Maysville, having been from Stamping Ground, Scott County, Kentucky. His widow, Louise, and their daughter, Dr. Rita Osborne-Goldman, and her family, are still members of the congregation. Of the other Osbornes in Mason County, some are Methodists, and are from Lewis County, i.e. Shelby G. Osborne and family. In fact, most of the Osbornes in Mason County whom I have known, as well as those in Scioto County, OH, where I live now, are originally from Lewis County, KY. However, the late Geneva (nee Osborne) Huber's Osborne forebears were Irish Catholics who came to Mason County in the mid-19th Century. 3. William "Buss" Hickey, born 1912, and his wife lived for many years on upper Limestone Street ("Irish Edgemont") in Maysville, between the Barrys and the McNamaras. he's probably been dead about 25 years or so. I don't think he and his wife had any children. As far as I know, Betty Barry still lives next door to the Hickey home, perhaps she could help with some info about Buss' family. khines1@qwest.net wrote:This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 3. There are at least 3 Disciples of Christ congregations in Mason County, most likely more. The largest is First Christian Church, 606-564-5568, 18 East Third Street, Maysville, KY 41056 - C. Wayne Barnett, Pastor. Also Mill Creek Christian Church, 606-742-2259, 6861 Ky Hwy 11, May's Lick, KY 41055, and May's Lick Christian Church, 606-763-6203, 5083 Main Street, May's Lick, KY 41055. By the way, Walter Scott, one of the men credited with co-founding the Disciples of Christ (along with Alexander and Thomas Campbell, and Barton Stone), is buried at May's Lick. My late mother was a communicant at First Christian Church for many years after coming to Maysville (she was baptized at North Middletown Christian Church in Bourbon County), until turning to Catholicism shortly before she died. St Patrick's Catholic, Nativity Episcopal, and First Christian are in close proximity to one another and have worked cooperatively for many years on projects such as Bible School, etc., so the! re's been a pretty high degree of intermarriage and conversions between them. Many of my paternal grandmother's relatives were Disciples, too, especially Hoppers and Hixsons, although she was a Methodist. If you're ever in Bourbon County, Kentucky, be sure and stop by the Cane Ridge Shrine. It's a must for anyone interested in the history of the Disciples of Christ. Cane Ridge is considered the birthplace of the denomination.
