    3. After a long hiatus, Kentucky Genealogy is back on the Internet. (I made the mistake of opting for a long-term contract with my web site host, and by the time renewal came up, I'd changed my e-mail address and never got the notice..) Anyway, we're back. Kentucky Genealogy is a mostly fee-based web site, at www.sworrel.org <http://www.sworrel.org/> , that contains several complete, professionally abstracted Kentucky marriage databases with an automatic Soundex conversion search feature. Marriage databases are available for the following counties, from their formation up to 1850: Boone, Campbell, Clark, Kenton, and Mason. Also some marriages from ministers' returns for unknown counties are included. These are the most complete and authoritative abstracts of marriages from these counties ever done: they contain information not only from the bonds, licenses, and ministers' "returns," but from "consents" filed by parents or relatives, where available (see "FAQ"). In some cases, the databases contain over 1,000 more marriages than previous compilations. The civil records have been supplemented by some religious records where the latter contain new marriages for a given county. Unlike some other genealogy databases, you don't have to know the exact spelling of a name to retrieve it: an automatic Soundex conversion searches for common variants. (This is important because the county court clerks often spelled names phonetically.) The databases make the marriage records fully searchable with one click-for all occurrences of a name, not just the bride, groom, or bondsman. Free lists of the most common surnames in each database are on the site, along with free detailed information on the documentary sources used. Additional free records abstracts for Boone County are posted on the site as well. I am occasionally available for genealogy research commissions in the central and northern Kentucky area. If you are interested, contact me via the site's e-mail address in the navigation bars. Again, it's at www.sworrel.org <http://www.sworrel.org/> .

    3. Hi Rhonda, I was wondering when you were going to jump in on those VALENTINEs. :o) I just clicked on the link that dixiesmom posted and started reading. There are a couple of very good Valentine bios there. Looks like they are from this book in 1911.... Past and Present of Hardin County, Iowa ed. by William J. Moir. Indianapolis: B. F. Bowen, 1911. I hadn't seen that before. The mention of Germany is particularly intriguing. When I was digging in the info on the www.familysearch.org site I saw some Germany to MD info for a Georg Valentine , Joh., (Valentin). Georg Valentine , Joh., (Valentin) Spouse: Anna Margaretha Mathias Birth: 1715 Place: Mutterstadt über Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Pfalz, Germany Death: Dec 1783 Place: Frederick County, Maryland Burial: Dec 1783 Place: Valentine Family Cemetery, near Miller's Bridge, Frederick County, Maryland Henry Valentine's father was supposed to be George - though I'm not sure what document references that. So this is extremely interesting. I'm making wild guesses, but theoretically - Henry could have married Elizabeth Frey/Frei in 1779 and then his father died just 4 years later. So Henry could have taken his portion of the inheritance money and moved to Mason County where there was more land available. I'm sure he could've bought more land at a less expensive price in what was becoming KY. On 18 December 1789 Virginia's General Assembly passed an act allowing Kentucky to apply for statehood and on 1 June 1792, there were nine counties that became the new state, with the full consent of Virginia.

So I don't think he could be marrying in 1779. If he really was born abt 1762 like you say, then it's just possible that he could have married when he was 17. 3. Thanks, Darryn. That's very useful to know. Do you have any clues or ideas why Frances Ingmire's book would have 1874 deaths, but not the 1861, deaths listed. Maybe I'll do some digging around this weekend to try to find out why some death records went to Frankfort and others stayed in Maysville. The originals were kept at the KY State Auditor's Office in Frankfort, however, I think they were given to the KY Historical Society at one point, but I'm not sure. 2. Kathy, 1861 is correct for the deaths. The originals were kept at the KY State Auditor's Office in Frankfort, however, I think they were given to the KY Historical Society at one point, but I'm not sure. Darryn

I am looking for a list of his children to match to my list, as well as any info on his parents or siblings. They have lived in Bracken, Robertson, Mason, and Lewis counties, according to the Census records I have located thus far. Anyone have anything on this family? Thanks! Nannie

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WBB.2ACI/3000 Message Board Post: Trying to figure out the father of Mary Jane Drake who married Samuel Pickerill III; her father's name is given as John Drake on the bond for her marriage in 1809 in Mason Co. What Drake family does they belong to? Seem to have some connection with the Drakes who settled Maysville. In the 1810 census there are 3 John Drakes in Mason Co., and in the 1830 census for Byrd township, Brown Co., Ohio, where Samuel and Mary Jane lived, there are William and Enoch Drake who live in proximity to Samuel's brothers, Denis and Thomas. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Janet
