I looked at the death notices archive for the Detroit papers and did not see anything like this. There was a Charles Whitaker whose notice was on the 21st, and the funeral home location was in the Shelby Township general area. You can look at http://www.detnews.com and search their archives. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JGravdiger@aol.com> To: <KYMASON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 5:27 PM Subject: Rite Whitaker of Michigon 2005 > Trying to find the Obit for a Rite Whitaker of Shelby Township, Mich. > > All I know is that she died 9-DEC-2005. > > > Thank for all your time and trouble. > > Jim >
Dear Listers, We are seeking information on a Robert HAMM born probably late 1800's or early 1900's in Maysville. Do any of you have information on any HAMM Families in Mason County? Thank you for any help. Karla Nurnberg --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Bring photos to life! New PhotoMail makes sharing a breeze.
Hi, HELP! We are about at the end of our rope searching for the marriage of this couple, so we are searching more counties in an attempt to find it. We are searching for more information on this couple. They were married about 1902 possibly in Campbell County. Unfortunately, they are not listed in the marriage index, because we have already checked it. Preston, their oldest child was born in Butler, Pendleton County, Kentucky. A kind soul looked in her book of Pendleton County marriages and their marriage was not listed in that book. Her father was George W. CALDWELL of Butler, Kentucky. Alice was born in Butler and she is buried in the IOOF Cemetery there. She died in Latonia in 1912 and left three small children, Preston, Marguerite and Valley S. without a mother. After her death we are not sure whether Charles W. remarried or not or just what happened to him. Charles W. according to the 1910 census was born in Tennessee and so were his parents. His father was Charles E. MILLER and he was also born in Tennessee. Charles W.'s mother was ......SWAIN. This has proven to be our brick wall. Thank you for any information that you might be able to give us. Karla Nurnberg --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Bring photos to life! New PhotoMail makes sharing a breeze.
I'm looking for any information on Michael Lawrence, b. abt 1730/1740. We know of daughters Sarah (m Stacy Reeves), Margaret (m. Joseph Trickett), (Rebecca) Ann, (m William Adams), and Elizabeth (m. John Herbert). He was in Monongalia Co, now WV, in the 1780's, and may have moved to Mason County, KY in the late 1790's or early 1800's. I'd also like any information on John Reeves and his wife Rebecca Huber, and their son Stacy Reeves. We believe they also moved to Mason County in the same time frame. Carolyn Carson
Trying to find the Obit for a Rite Whitaker of Shelby Township, Mich. All I know is that she died 9-DEC-2005. Thank for all your time and trouble. Jim
I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte

The site has been so active lately, I will ask again if anyone is researching the Daniel Rees - Elizabeth Bond Rees family. Both are buried in Shannon Cemetery in Maysville. I descend from their daughter Elsey Bond Rees m. William S. Allen April 10, 1837. Would like information on the parents of Daniel Rees and/or Elizabeth Bond. Happy to share information on the Allen family from VA.
Wow ! Thanks, Kathy, for all the great information. Sue in Florida __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
Does anyone have access to the records of St. Patrick's Cemetery ? A: The Mason Co. Museum Library has a listing of that cemetery. You can also find 1848-1925 records for St. Patrick Catholic Church (Maysville, Kentucky) on FHL film numbers 2021980 Items 11-13 and 2021981 Items 1-5 at any LDS Family History Library. Marriages, 1848-1853; baptisms, 1848-1857 Baptisms, 1857-1893 Baptisms, 1894-1925 Communion, 1901-1925 - English - no index Confirmations, 1901-1924 Marriages, 1858-1895/Burials, 1858-1895 - English or Latin - no index Marriages, 1895-1925 Interments, 1895-1925 - English Cemetery ledger, 1894-1925 - English Does anyone know the name of the Catholic church that served that area ? A: St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maysville is the main one. It was heavily split between German Catholics and Irish Catholics. There was a little area called May's Lick that was south and a bit west of Maysville. It was largely Irish and, if I recall correctly, had another smaller Catholic church. Did Maysville have a city directory in the 1850s? Not sure, but I don't think so. They did have newspapers though. Mason county researchers are extremely lucky that Maysville had some of the earliest and most steadily published newspapers in all of KY. Has anyone seen mortuary records for Maysville or Mason Cty ? No. I would think you'd have to contact the various cemetery caretakers and churches around. Anyone else researching Flahertys ? Not that I'm aware of. Mine are the FURLONGs from Co. Wexford. What attracted people to Mason Cty and Maysville in the 1850s? The river and good farming land mostly. Maysville had a fantastic river landing that was known as Limestone in its earlier days. Free land ? The land wasn't free, but some soldiers got KY land as bounty for their war service. Was there a railroad or anything being built that offered jobs ? There were a lot of farm laborer jobs and a lot of industry jobs too, due to the river traffic. I saw one map that made it look like Maysville was right on the Ohio River. Is that right ? Yes, that map would be correct. The town is on the river and has had a flooding problem off and on through the centuries. You might want to take a look at some of the pictures on Ken Downing's site: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=4058891&uid=2035815 Kathy -----Original Message----- From: Sue Martinson [mailto:suem600@yahoo.com] Sent: Friday, March 17, 2006 5:36 PM To: KYMASON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYMASON-L] Flaherty Hello Everyone I am just starting my research in Mason Cty. Hello List, I'm researching my MEINKING ancestors from Mehlbergen/Nienburg on the Weser River in Niedersachsen. They immigrated to Cincinnati, OHio, but I noticed the 1930 census has a number of MEINKINGs living in Mason County. I'm wondering if any of these MEINKINGs were also from Mehlbergen and somehow related to the MEINKINGs in Cincinnati?? There is a new MEINKING surname Message Board online at rootsweb/ancestry: _http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.meinking_ (_http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.meinking_ (http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.meinking) ) where I've posted my names of interest. I'd appreciate if any MEINKING descendants from Mason Co. would have information about this family to share on the board or with me personally. Thanks so much! Marilyn in Ohio

Ginny, I wonder if there are any Ford, Foard, or Forde listed in the 1790 census. Probably would be in Mason County or Fleming County. Thanks. Mike Ford
Ginny, You have probably been hit with all kinds of requests, but are there and Dixons/Dixsons mentioned in the 1790 KY census? If you get the time, I thank you for your trouble. George C.
