I don't know if James and Patrick were related but they might have been. The marriage I have for James was in 1852. 8 July 1852 James Flagherty Agnes Davis Bondsman: Martin Lee Do you have them on *any* census records? They might have been recent immigrants in 1851 or 52. Mine came about that same timeframe from County Wexford. Hopefully one or both of yours were alive yet in 1900 and you can find their immigration years. Maysville had the biggest Catholic church, St. Patrick's. But St. Pat's wasn't the only Catholic church in that county. I do know that the record books for St. Pat's have been microfilmed and you can rent the film from the FHL folks. There was a smaller Catholic church in Mayslick. Which is where my Irish folks settled. But even though they lived in Mayslick they still went to St. Pat's in Maysville to get married at the Rectory. Hi Everyone I am not too familiar with Mason Cty. I found a marriage for James Flagherty and Agnes Davis in 1852. But WHERE in Mason Cty did they marry ? They were Irish Catholics. Do you think Maysville would be the only place to search ? I found the marriage in the IGI. I wonder if there is more info on the film ? I am going to need someone to check parish records and cemeteries once I figure out where to look. Does anyone know a good researcher ? Hi Sue, I have a Thomas Flaugherty, married 3 times in Maysville in the 1850's: Thomas Flaugherty m. Nelly Grady 25 Jan 1850 at St. Patrick's, Maysville, KY Thomas Flaugherty m. Ann Grady 16 Mar 1852 at St. Patrick's, Maysville, KY Thomas Flaugherty m. Bridget Kinney 23 May 1859 at St. Patrick's, Maysville, KY Do you know if he was any relation to your James Flagherty? Just curious. I've seen Thomas's name spelled in many ways, including Flagherty, but the spelling above seems to appear the most, not sure if it is correct or not. Someone, somewhen put down information - right or wrong- and it got picked up and recorded somewhere, sometime onto records - CD's or LDS site. Then many (sometimes dozens) of others add this misinformation to their family tree without checking the validity of the information. In just one instance, I was able - by dumb luck- to find an original family group record submitted in the 1970's that was the source of the misinformation. Dispite official records to disprove this error, many others continue to use this wrong data. I used to spend a lot of time submitting to others the records to disprove that old FGR but apparently many just do not care. As I see it you have two choices 1. Add Postems to the trees that you have found and hope the webmaster will consider your information. 2. Just be content that you have the correct information. Applications to join organizations, etc. do not depend on what others say - well documented records speak for themselves. Barb

Numerous trees on Ancestry.com, other genealogy sites including LDS all have identical wrong info. Family migrated from VA to Mason County KY around 1805. Somehow, somewhere 95% of info on one son of Isaiah McGraw b 1770 Fauquier VA and Ann Norris b 1779 MD is WRONG. Keep finding trees, etc showing son Isaiah married to Sarah A. Collins. Correct info is son Hiram b abt. 1805 KY or VA married Sarah Ann Collins 8Jun1839 [per Mason County KY Marriage Records 1804-60 Vol II-VI]. Also Civil War documents of Hiram's son Anthony state Anthony's parents are Hiram McGraw and Sarah Ann Collins. Cannot figure out where error is. Don't know if original document is wrong (i.e. Hiram had brother named Isaiah; perhaps brother Isaiah/father Isaiah was witness & names got written on wrong line) or if there was a transcribing error somewhere and it's just snowballed. How to I find source? Once found, how do I correct? This is driving me nuts & is big roadblock, especially if I want to join/apply at a historical society or DAR. Causing me to question my research. I know I'm in right church; maybe wrong pew? Can anyone offer advice? I live in New England; can't get to Mason County in person to 'eyeball' records for myself. Will gladly reimburse copy fee/postage etc if someone gets copy of original document(s). Any help or suggestions appreciated. Thanks. (Also need place/date for death of Hiram; can't find him after 1840 census.)

Cindy Gow is descended from my Elisha's older brother Elijah (1796). Thanks for answering my query. I wish we would have had the same Elisha. Fondly, Cheryl Comer

We don't know where Jacob and Nancy were born but the came to the Mason Cou. area of KY from VA just before 1800. All of their children were born there. In the 1830's all but one son moved to MO and ARK. The majority of them stayed there. Elisha's descendents moved on to KS and NE. The move was to avoid the war. Neither Jacob nor Elisha had any thing to do with war. Elisha married Mary Van Camp Dawson.
