Surnames: Holland, Henderson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WBB.2ACI/3049 Message Board Post: I am looking for the parents of Oliver P. Holland who married Mary Henderson. I am trying to find out if Oliver and Wright Holland were brothers. In 1850 Oliver and family are in Carter, County Kentucky. In 1860 Oliver and family are in Carter County, Kentucky In 1870 Oliver has moved to Lewis County, Kentucky In 1880 Oliver can be found in Fleming County, Kentucky with the son of Wright Holland living next to him. When Wright Holland's wife applied for a Civil War widows pension there is a statement dated February 6, 1882 from Oliver saying he was at the wedding of Wright and Margaret Holland when they were married in Mason County, Kentucky in July of 1833. There is no doubt that Wright and Oliver knew each other but that doesn't mean they were brothers though. Wright is 5 years older than Oliver. Just trying to take back the line another generation. Thanks, Darrell Warner

    2. When I was a young baby in Maysville, 1935-1940, my father worked as a bartender for a man named Purdon. He owned a tavern on Forest Ave. (The tavern is still there) We lived in an appartment over the tavern. I can't rmember this Purdon's name but he had two sons and a daughter. One son was Clarence, Not sure but I think they called the younger son, Junior. The Daughter was I think Beulah Clark. She was my first grade teacher in the upper east end, First? Ward school. The school was torn down several years ago and now is a parking lot for Browning Manufacturing Co. Don Lee

    3. Lisa, Are your Purdins from Adams Co., OH, across the river from Mason Co. Cluxton is a name commonly associated with Adams Co. And it's "Purdin" in Adams Co. It's always "Purdon" in Mason Co. This may help narrow your search. Hope this is helpful. --- lisa_holderfield@yahoo.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > this mailing list. > > Surnames: Rhoads and or Purdin > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WBB.2ACI/2117.2 > > Message Board Post: > > I am doing research of my grandfather, Homer Cluxton > Purdin, born on March 23, 1894 and died on August 9, > 1969. 3. There's an Adam FLAUGHER that is mentioned on the Mason County Taxpayers' list for 1793. There's a Noah FLAUGHER that is mentioned in the list for the Maysville Cemetery (old section - "single rights" lots). But no dates are mentioned for him. Checked the O'F(s) and didn't find any entries. There's about 60 DAVIS entries in the index. I'd need a first name to even start to know where to look. 3. Kentucky Pioneers and Their Descendants Compiled by Ila Earle Fowler - For the Kentucky Society, Daughters of Colonial Wars (c) 1967 --------------------- Mason Co, KY: Will Book L (page 200) October Court, 1834 William Reed and James Reed appeared in open court and proved that Apolos Cooper, late a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War, was killed at the Battle of Brandywine (September 11, 1777) and that at the time of his death he left a widow named Mary and three children to wit: Robert Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Jacob Cooper; that Robert Cooper died many years ago without any legitimate children, leaving Jacob and Sarah his heirs-at-law; that Sarah intermarried with James Dobyns; he died in the month of July, last, and that Jacob Cooper and Sarah Dobyns are both living in the State of Kentucky; tha Mary the widow of the said Appollos Cooper intermarried with one William Stoker; that both Stoker and his wife have been dead several years. Upon motion of the said Jacob Cooper and Sarah Dobyns it is ordered that the above proof be certified to the proper office. [NOTE: It appears to me, Kathy, that the following are a researcher's notes and not necessarily part of the will. I do see Lula Reed Boss's name scattered throughout this book. So, I'm guessing, that these may originally be part of her research notes.] Lieut. Appollos Cooper married Mary Reed, sister of William and James Reed. The heirs of Lieut. Cooper were awarded 2666 2/3 acres of land (Land Office Military Warrant No. 4338). The balance of pay due Lieut. Cooper after his death, was paid to Col. Levin Powell, of Loudoun county, Virginia, to be given to Cooper's heirs. Mary (Reed) Cooper was the daughter of Major Jacob Reed and his wife, Rebecca (Claypoole), of Loudoun county, Virginia.
