There are several Wallingford burials in the Charleston Bottoms Cemetery. According to Shad and Janet McPherson, it is located: On Ky. 8 one mile N.W. of Clyde T. The ages of John and Charles are 20 and 24, respectively and no race is listed, which usually means they are white, doesn't it? The ages fit in that the could well be siblings of Rodney's. He is 29. Thank you for opening that possibility. ----- Original Message ----- From: ben hawkins<mailto:captnemo1958@yahoo.com> To: kymason@rootsweb.com<mailto:kymason@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2007 11:33 AM Subject: Re: [KYMASON] Clark/Pierce If the 1850 census shows John and Charles Clark, farmhands, living in Rodney & Susan Clark's household, check the census for their ages and race... they may have been the Clarks' slaves. --- beverly graver <beverlygr@msn.com<mailto:beverlygr@msn.com>> wrote: > Lynn, > > I'm descended from their youngest child, Taylor > Clark. I really don't know. Every antebellum Ky census taker's report I've seen always listed each individual's race, since it was absolutely necessary to determine Congressional representation, a slave counting as only 2/3 (or was it 3/4) of a white person for representation purposes. Of course slaves (and women) were not allowed to vote, but they were used in determining population for representational purposes. --- beverly graver <beverlygr@msn.com> wrote: > The ages of John and Charles are 20 and 24, > respectively and no race is listed, which usually > means they are white, doesn't it? > The ages fit in that the could well be siblings of > Rodney's. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Clark, Pierce, Stairs Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.mason/4435.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am also descended from Rodney and Susan (Pierce) Clark. They were my 3-greats grandparents. Their son John Joseph (spouse-Belle Stairs) was my gg-grandfather. I too have tried to find if Joseph was Rodney's father. I have nothing on Susan's parents. I do have a lot on the family of Rodney and Susan. If you need any information, let me know and maybe I can help. Which child of Rodney's are you descended from? Lynn Koehler
Lynn, I'm descended from their youngest child, Taylor Clark. I have as Rodney's and Susan's children: Mary Lydia, Caroline Matilda, John J (Jack)--is this your John Joseph?--Frank M, Sarah Elizabeth (Betsy), William Andrew (Buddy), Burk Pierce (Diner), Ida R (who married George Weaver), Louis P, and then my Taylor, who married Angie Bertha Cherry. Taylor and Bertha had 4 children: Clyde, Bertha, Amy, & Anna (my grandmother.) The 1850 census for Mason Co., shows a John Clark and a Charles Clark--both as farm hands and living with Rodney and Susan--I think they must be more brothers-- Another thing that makes think that Joseph and Polly are indeed the parents of Rodney, is that their first daughter was named Mary (& Polly is the nickname of the time for Mary) and now that you've told me that their 1st son was named John Joseph. Of course, that's not proof, but it sure seems we must be on the right track. I don't really have anything on the other children other than the dates of the births & nicknames for some of them I'd certainly appreciate any information that you'd be willing to share. And I will certainly tell you anything that I know. I have a picture of Susan-a snapshot that I took at a cousin's house--she has the original--if you don't have that, I can email it to you. I'm sure you'd like to see her. There is no picture of Rodney that I'm aware of--we haven't even been able to find his burial site. I'm from Pendleton Co., KY and now live in Florida--where are you from? I would like to share my family page with members to see if there are any connections. Thanks, Sue Baldwin http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/a/l/M-sue-Baldwin-IL/index.html Not all the surnames will show up in my index because, frankly, I don't know how to add them to the index!

Congress, in a move to speed up the survey and sale of Ohio land, agreed to sell large tracts to the Ohio Company (in 1787 and 1792 in Athens, Meigs, and adjoining counties) and to John Cleves Symmes (in 1794 in parts of Hamilton, Butler, and Warren counties.) These developers then subdivided, surveyed, and sold their tracts. Some bounty warrants were honored, wholly or partially, as payment for tracts. The Land Ordinance of 1796 was passed. It defined the surveying system to be used by all future public land surveys. In this system the townships are 6 miles square, composed of 36 one mile square sections, each of which may be subdivided into quarters or smaller. The numbering of the sections is serpentine, starting in the northeast corner of the township. Townships are identified as being north or south of a baseline and in a range east or west of a longitudinal meridian line. The Land Ordinance also created the Congressional Military Tract in the heart of Ohio. The survey system used was one of 5 mile square townships, and the minimum purchase was 1/4 township (about 4000 acres), much larger than the standard military bounty warrant of 160 acres. This had the effect of decreasing the value of the warrant and encouraging speculation in land warrants. The Ohio Land Office opened in 1800 and began selling land to individuals. Ohio became a state in 1803. In Beers History of Brown County - 1883, pg. 506, " Sharondale Mill was built by Daniel Boone. The building was log, and stood on the right bank of Big Three Creek, two miles north of Aberdeen, near the old stone still-house below where William Bradford's residence now stands. ... T. B Fulton went in as a partner (with a Dr. Moore about 1844). In 1857 T. B Fulton bought out Dr. Moore and operated it very successfully till 1874, when he sold it to Jacob Pimm....then A. R Brookover became a partner. In March 1878, Brookover became bankrupt and ....his interest was sold to William Bradford, who also bought out Pimm's interest and operated the mill till May, 1882, when it was burned down." T. B (Titus Bennett) Fulton was my wife's g-g-grandfathers brother. Her name is Jeanine Bennett (Fulton) Watters.
