If Jesse Cooper was married to Mary Applegate, then their son Basil Cooper married his second cousin, since Mary Applegate was a first cousin to Joseph Wallingford, the father of Basil's (probable wife) Mary Wallingford. Another piece of circumstantial evidence that ties these families together come from the records of the Hartford United Methodist Church in the tiny village of Hartford, Ohio County, Indiana. Both Basil Cooper and Robert Cofield are listed as founding members of this church. They are likely brothers-in-law, married to Wallingford sisters Mary and Amanda (daughters of Joseph and Jane Thornton Wallingford). The church is still in operation, and they have a website: http://www.gbgm-umc.org/hartford/about_us.html A few more tangles from my notes: Cooper researchers theorize that Jesse Sr. Cooper (who may have married Mary Applegate), was the brother of Thomas Cooper (born 1793), whose (probable) daughter, Mary Jane Cooper married Samuel Wallingford (son of Joseph and Jane Thornton Wallingford), and whose son Jesse Cooper (born 19 Dec 1827, not to be confused with Basil's son Jesse born 12 Feb 1835) married Margaret Cofield (daughter of Robert and Amanda Wallingford Cofield). In the census records, all these families are neighbors, so it's not hard to figure they are cousins as well, probably a couple times over.... I'm delighted that other people are working on (or at least near) these lines.

That's correct, Toni. Bracken County was formed in 1796 from portions of Mason County and Campbell County. After the county lines were redrawn, the 'new' Bracken countians still had relatives, got married, and owned property in the parent county (and vice versa). For researchers who may overlook that fact, the links to databases on other county websites can help them find records they would otherwise miss. Thanks for asking! Marla P.S.: Have you posted your query on the Bracken County message board? There may be a subscriber who has the published marriage bonds who will do a lookup for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: tonim89005@yahoo.com<mailto:tonim89005@yahoo.com> To: KYMASON-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:KYMASON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 7:24 AM Subject: [KYMASON-L] Re: Elizabeth Henry, Marriage bond or? Their son, Issac Daniel was my ggrandfather; his daughter Della was my grandmother. According to their death certificates they are both buried in Dover, KY (Mason County). I believe they are probably buried in the Rosemont Cemetery, although I have walked the cemetery twice & did not find a headstone. Their son, Issac & Daughter-in-law are buried there, as well as other family members--so it would stand to reason this would be true. I have written a letter to the caretaker of Rosement asking if he could check any records he might have and advise a yes/no. I haven't yet heard back from him. Mason County was an original Kentucky county, i.e. formed prior to Kentucky statehood in 1792. One other important bit of info tonight... The early death records in Mason county, KY are terribly spotty. But sometimes you can get lucky. Dear Listers: I contacted the UK/Young Library Reference Desk to see if they might have a roster of people who do newspaper lookups for a small fee. Their reply is below. For the complimentary lookup, they will need a specific date and the most likely newspaper. A list of the newspapers in their collection is provided at their website: <http://lib.uky.edu/repro/<about:blank>> Marla McCullough Mason County KyGenWeb Coordinator ////////// Dear Marla, Unfortunately, no such roster exists here at the University of Kentucky. However, please inform your researchers that the University of Kentucky will perform one complimentary obituary look-up and we will be happy to send a photocopy of the obituary to them at no charge. And as I'm sure you know, our microfilms are available for interlibrary loan--so researchers that do have access to microfilm readers can conduct their research that way. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance and thank you for your question. Sincerely, Young Library Reference/ss

The only thing I wish I could find right now, is Jacob and Susan Trouts in the 1850 and 1860 census. I know they were here but I can't find them. Other than that I am doing ok. I am not going to do the pond till friday. That way when I refill it on Saturday, my grand daughter plays in it. It is about 2 and half feet deep and measures about 10 ft. by 15 ft. Someone from Adams County would probably be a lot more helpful to you. Although there is a hospital in Adams County, at West Union, the two large regional hospitals nearby are Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, and Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, Ky. Hamilton County would probably be of no use to you unless Mr. McCarty's death was under unusual circumstances, in which case his body would have been sent to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy. By the way, McCarty, is a surname with a long association with Adams County. I have a cousin who married a McCarty from Adams County. Just as a side note, Billy the Kid, aka William H. Bonney, was actually born Henry McCarty in New York City.
