    3. Friends, I'd like to welcome Bill Utterback to the Marshall Co list and tell all of you who are not familiar with Bill, that does an excellent job. You will enjoy having him as your host. Now for my Marshall Co connections.... My immediate family and my parents all live in the Possum Trot area of Marshall Co. 1. [KYMARSHA-L] Greetings From New List Host
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - Pat Oliver created, and has hosted, this List since its inception. He has now felt the need to give up hosting this List, and asked me if I would be willing to act as host for this List, in addition to the KYJacksonPurchase-L List, which I created and have hosted for over a year. I agreed to do so, and I want to thank Pat for offering this List to me, along with the KYHICKMA List, which covers Hickman County. Looking at the subscriber listings, I see that there are about 60 people who subscribe to this List. Many of you already know me, as I recognize a fair number of the e-mail addresses as ones which are also subscribed to the KYJP List, which covers all 8 of the Jackson Purchase counties. This List deals specifically with Marshall County, and data posts which I make to the KYJP List which concern Marshall County will also be posted here, for those of you who are not on the KYJP List. I do not plan any changes in the operation of the List, as Pat had it set up and running well. For those of you who do not know me, I have been researching families in the Jackson Purchase region for over 35 years. All of my paternal roots lay deep in the soil of the Jackson Purchase. It is an area which I love, and its history and the genealogies of its families form a rich tapestry. I look forward to working with you in your endeavors in Marshall County. -Bill Utterback +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    1. [CSAFAD] MOUNTAIN HOWITZERS MOBILITY
    2. Glenn Belcher
    3. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% SECOND KENTUCKY AFFECTIONATELY NICKNAMED THEM THEIR 'BULL PUPS' %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% "No gun is so well suited in all respects to the wants of our cavalry, as these little guns," said Confederate General Basil Duke of the mountain howitzers he utiliized, while riding with General John Hunt Morgan's raids in the western theater. These little cannons were light enough to be pulled rapidly on raids with just one horse, or pushed for long distances on the battlefield by just a few soldiiers. An added advantage, said Duke, was that they produced "a great deal more noise than one would expect from their size and appearance." The men with Duke's Second Kentucky Cavalry were quite fond of their two little guns, and affectionately nicknamed them their "bull pups." %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% DEO VINDICE!
