My friends - Today, we will resume our review of Marshall County Vital Statistics birth records in the period 1852-1859. In the prior 13 installments in this series, we had worked our way up to the year 1854, and we will continue with that year in today's post. If you see a name of interest to you, and you would like the full data set for that person(which usually includes the sex of the child, if not obvious, the date of birth and the name of the father and maiden name of the mother), let me know and I will forward that information on to you. I should point out, too, that this portion of the Marshall VS records are really in very poor condition, in both the original and the microfilm formats. I have seen both, and the film is actually a tad better in some cases than the original pages, because there is a little contrast. But they were extremely hard to read, and this adds room for even more error, and, as you know, there are already many, many errors and omissions in these early VS records. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Marshall County - Vital Statistics Records - Births - Part 14 M=male F=female Nelson, Alfred Allen, Hullay E. My friends - A good 4th of July to you - I hope that, wherever you are, the weather is cooperating with your plans for the day. I have prepared another installment in the series on JP Land Grants. This one contains more of the "K" surnames, specifically, Klanprecht/Klanprich, Kaler/Kaylor/Kayler, Key/Keys, Kelly/Kelley, Kennady/Kennedy, Kesterson, Keeling, Kelso, Keebler, Keel, Kearly, Kemmell, Keiser, Kessinger, Kegar, Keyworth and Kellam. If you would like a copy of this file, please let me know, *using the file number* - *LG-838*. It will be sent as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message, unless you request it as a straight e-mail message(which often will skew the columnar alignments). To view other Jackson Purchase region land grants text files which are available for other surnames throughout the alphabet, you can visit this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygraves/JPGrants.htm -B ============================================================

My friends - I have been working today on constructing a web page which lists all of the JP Land Grants text files which I have offered since I began that series. That page is now complete. It will be kept updated as more files are offered. This page will enable our newer subscribers, and anyone who needs to do so, to visit it and to find there the file numbers for each text file, as well as the surnames which that particular file contains. If you need to request a copy of a file, you can do so directly from the page through a mailto link at the top. I have to have the file name or number, however, when a request is made. This page is linked off the Jackson Purchase FAQ Page, which has, for some unknown reason, suddenly lost its table format. It is perfectly usable, but I'll have to do some investigating to see where the table format went. The URL for the JP Land Grants File Listing Page is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygraves/JPGrants.htm I think that this new page will be useful as we add more land grant text files to the ongoing series. -B ============================================================
My friends - I now have another file ready in our series on JP land grants. This is File # LG-875 (and I will *need* that number if you request the file), and it covers more of the "S" surnames. Specifically, this file includes the surname Shinn, Shirly/Shirley, Shields, Spicer, Sibert, Sills, Sisson, Stringer, Spinks, Skiles, Skinner, Smithson, Silivan, Silers, Suit, Spilman, St.John, Swigert, Stiles, and Story. If you would like a copy of this file, let me know - ask for File LG-875 - and I will get it to you. I will send it as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message unless you specify that you need it as a straight e-mail message(which tends to skew the columnar alignments). -B ============================================================
I am searching for the ancestral family of Virginia Elizabeth Carolina MC CAMMON, b. 1829 in Ky, who married George Washington MC NUTT from Henry Co., KY. They are my great great grandparents. Also need their dates of death and their place of burial. I may have found who Virginia Elizabeth Carolina MC CAMMON MC NUTT's parents are. Sometimes it is a very good thing being somewhat of a packrat. I was going through some little bits of paper when I came across a notepad piece. I had written Virginia's name with the name of her father and her mother's maiden name. Thomas E. MC CAMMON married ???? DE CLAUSELLE. Another note that I have is a will which was probated July 10, 1857, but I do not know where. I will try to see what I can find out about this will. Another page from the same pad with the same kind of ink has some names and counties written on them. The names are HUNSAKERS and M. A. A. SLAUGHTER. The counties are Calloway Co., Marshall Co., and McCracken Co. These are all western KY counties. Hunsaker may be a descendant of one of George and Virginia's daughters. One married a CREASON and the other married a NANCE. Glenda Cook Melson Lebanon, MO enda Cook Melson Lebanon, MO
My friends - Yesterday, I had said that we would return to Calloway County for tonight's data posting, but I did some reviewing and found that it has been awhile since we continued our look at the 1852-1859 Vital Statistics birth records for Marshall County. We had worked our way up from 1852 to 1854 in earlier postings, and in today's post, we'll continue that series. If you see a birth which is of interest to you, and you would like the complete data set(which includes the date of birth, the sex of the child if not obvious and the name of the father and maiden name of the mother), let me know and I will send it in your direction. As always, please avoid resending this entire message back to me when you make your request. Your help in that area is greatly appreciated. We have about 7 new subscribers who have joined us over the past few days, and I want to take a moment to welcome them, and invite them to post their research needs for the 8 counties of the Jackson Purchase region here. Hopefully, some of us can aid in their research. I also invite them to visit the Jackson Purchase Images web site for rectangular survey maps of the JP counties, as well as photographs, and the 1880 Graves County Atlas. The JP FAQ page is another source for information and resources for the JP region. Both of these URL's were in the Welcome Message which you received. In addition, the searchable JP List Archives are available for your use, which contain the nearly 3000 messages which have been posted here in the 18 months that the List has been functioning, including my 300+ data posts. The Archives can be found here: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=KYJacksonPurchase-L Finally, on another matter, our good friend Wayne Langston will be arriving in Mayfield tomorrow for a three week visit and tells me that he will travel to the counties in the JP, and to Livingston and Caldwell counties(which are not in the JP)to do research if anyone has needs in those areas. To contact him about your needs, you can reach him directly at: wayne2@hotmail.com or (270) 247-2644. I have no interest in, or connection with, this offering, and I do not endorse or offer any recommendations - I am merely passing along the information. Tomorrow, we will finish out the week on the JP List with another in the Skills Puzzler series. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Marshall County - Vital Statistics Records - Births - Part 13 (M)=Male (F)=Female Duncan, Hugh A. My friends - I returned home late last night from the IGHR at Samford University. Today, I have prepared another in our series of JP Land Grants Text Files. This one covers more of the "R" surnames. Specifically, the surnames contained in this file are: Roach, Robey/Roby, Rosson, Rhodes, Rogom, Rogan, Rowden, Rossel/Rosel, Rodman, Rose, Roark, Rozzell, Robins, Rollins, Rowton, Robertson, Rowe, Roop, Rolly, Russell, Ruder, Ruduff, Rudd, Rush, Rutter, Rule, Rushing, Rust, Rutland, Rupard, Rumy, Rumsey, Rutherford and Rudolp. If you would like a copy of this file in plain text format, let me know and I will get it to you. The file number is LG865 and I *will need that file number* as part of your request. I will send it as an attachment to an e-mail message, unless you specify that you need it as a straight e-mail(which will often skew the columnar alignments). *Please note* that you will receive the complete file. Time constraints do not allow me to go into the file and extract individual surname data. Extraneous material can easily be deleted from the file contents after you receive it. -B ============================================================
My friends - Greetings from Birmingham, Alabama, where I will be for the next week attending the Institute for Genealogical & Historical Research at Samford University. I am writing this from my hotel room on my laptop, and I will be posting from here all of next week. On the flight down here, I managed get into a 3 hour delay at DFW due to weather, requiring us to sit in the aircraft on the taxiway. When we finally departed, I counted 101 aircraft lined up to take off before our plane rose so high that I could not count any longer. We can do a lot of things these days, but we can't control Mother Nature. Before I left home, I prepared another installment in the JP Land Grant series. This one covers a part of the surnames which begin with the letter "B". More specifically, this file covers the following surnames: Beaver, Bennett, Bell, Berry, Blewitt, Brewer, Bett, Beaman, Blevins, Begg, Bittle, Billington/Bellington, Brinkly/Brinkley, Bridges, Brien, Birkhead, Bird, Biggs, Brimmage and Briant. If you would like a copy of this file, let me know and ask for file *BLG791* - I have had to start using a numbering system as we get into multiple files for different surnames beginning with the same letter. I'll send this file to you as a plain text e-mail attachment, unless you specify that you need it as a straight e-mail(which will often skew the columnar alignments). *Please note* that you will receive the entire file - time constraints will not permit me to go into the file and extract data on individual surnames. Those names in the file that are not connected with your family can easily be deleted after you receive the file, if you wish to do so. We never know, though - one of those surnames that get deleted may turn out to be one of ours down the road. I have a few responses to requests that are outstanding, and I have the material with me to respond, but it may be tomorrow before i can do so. Its been a tiring day, and I believe I will catch a few ZZZ's, as the young folks say(I guess they still say that...?<g>) -B ============================================================
My friends - I now have another file reworked and ready to announce. The Marshall County Medical Register for the years 1888-1900 is ready in both rich text format(which I recommend) and plain text format. To recapitulate for those half dozen new subscribers who have joined us over the past 36 hours, the KY Legislature began, in 1874, to pass laws which required more formal education for physicians, and, as time went on, these educational requirements became greater and greater. Beginning in 1888, all physicians had to register with the county clerk(s) in the county(ies) in which they practiced. Those physicians who had been practicing at least ten years prior to the 1874 Act were considered "grandfathered" and did not have to present a diploma from an accredited medical school facility. They did, however, have to file a certificate swearing to that fact. In some counties, the certificates themselves were also preserved with the Medical Register, as occurred in Carlisle and Calloway Counties(whose Medical Registers are available in file format and have been offered here earlier). These certificates often carried the history of the grandfathered physician's career, with places he had practiced and the years spent in those various places. unfortunately, Marshall County does not have those certificates extant - only the Medical Register itself. The information contained in the file includes the name of the physician, his age, where he was born, the medical system he uses (allopathic or eclectic), his "authority" to practice medicine(grandfathered by certificate or the medical school he attended and the date of his diploma) and the registration date. These registers can be valuable genealogical aids when the place of birth is unknown, and they are good historical adjuncts as well. This Marshall County Register includes the name of one female physician, perhaps the first one in the County - Martha Jane Baker Love. The physicians included in the Marshall County Medical Register to 1900 are: J.B.Wilson J.D.Warford Ben T. Frank Benjamin B. Griffith William Curd T.C.Coleman Wm N. Bailey E.C.Dycus E.G.Thomas Rufus H. Starks B.T.Hall J.M.Mooney William A. Givens Wm S. Stone Johnston Frank, Jr. Samuel Graham Lewis E. Finley Jonathan W.Johnson Thomas W. Dunn R.M.Jones J.A.Jones Van A. Stilley E.A.Henson Lee H. Tully Richard J. Neal Horace M. Robertson Wm J. Saling Charles E. Howard Albert H. Freeman Joseph Martin Woodall Thomas Blewitt Helm Thomas E. Russell John T. Crandell John W. Robinson James R. Seitz Martha Jane Baker Love If you would like a copy of this file, let me know and I will get it to you, and *please specify Rich Text Format or Plain Text* - I will send it in Plain Text if nothing is specified. You will receive the complete file, as time constraints will not permit me to go into the file and extract individual names. As always, your help in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. -B ===========================================================
My friends - I am dropping in today to let you know that I have another module ready in the JP Land Grants series. This installment covers a part of the grantee surnames which begin with the letter "H". Specific surnames contained in this installment include the following: Hamilton, Hamby, Hammond/Hamond, Hamett, Hamlett, Hambin, Hamblin, Hamtramck, Hancock, Hanna, Handly/Handley, Hanks, Haner and Hannor. If you would like a plain text copy of this file, let me know and I will get it to you. *Please ask for file LG824*. I will send it as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message unless you request it as a straight e-mail message, without attachment(which tends to skew the columnar alignments). Due to time constraints, I cannot send individual surname data from within this file. These files are relatively small, and the other parts which are not needed can be easily deleted by the recipient. I usually list the other installments which are available in this series at this point, but we now have so many that it makes for a very long message. I am working on a file that will show all that are currently available, with the surnames in each installment. I may get that done tomorrow, depending on time constraints. -B ============================================================
Beverly Boyd married Martha "Patsy" Boyd 26 Sept. 1829 in Christian Co. Ky. They were both Boyds. Martha was born in 1813 & died in 1853. She came from Wilson Co. Tn. to Christian Co. Ky. with her father John Boyd. John was a brother to Abner Boyd & their father was Francis Boyd. Francis Boyd's father was Patrick,Jr. from Halifax Va. Francis Boyd 1st appeared on the Christian Co. tax list in 1813 which is the year his grand daughter (Martha) was born. It is not known when Beverly was born or died but we think he was born in 1804 & died abt. 1835. Beverly 1st appeared in the Christian Co. tax list in 1830 & did not appear again because he was exempt for being cripple(Christian Co. Ky. Order Book G dated 3 Oct. 1831). Beverly & Martha's children are: 1)Martha Ann born 1829 & married to John Messamore; 2)Keziah J. born 1830 & married Obadiah H. Ferrell; Mary Ann (Polly) born 1833 & married 1)Thomas M. Ferrell who was killed in the War Between the States & after he moved to Tx. 2)Jesse Carmack in Tx.(my ggrandfather) 3)John Thompson in Christian Co. Ky. I am hoping that some of the background above will lead someone to tell me who my gggrandfather Beverly was and/or his parents. Cardin Carmack ccarmack@peganet.com
My friends - Today, we will return to our look at the Early Marshall County Marriages series. In prior posts in this series, we have worked our way up from 1848 to 1851, and we will continue with 1851 marriages in this segment. If you see a marriage of interest, and you would like the full data set(which usually includes the date of marriage, consents, if necessary, name of the surety and witnesses and who performed the ceremony), let me know and I will get that information to you. *As always, your help in not resending this entire posting back to me with your request is greatly appreciated*. As an update on the two new lists - the JacksonPurchase-Lore-L and the Land-Research-L - there has not been a posting to the Lore list in about 4 days, with one post in the same period to the Land-Research List. In the past couple of days, there have been about 10 people unsub from each list. So, thusfar, neither list is off to a fast start. Yesterday, I ask if anyone knew if Mr.Beverly Boyd was related to any of the Boyds that came from Halifax Co. Va. to Trigg & Christian Co. Today, I would like to add another Boyd to the list that may be related to Mr. Beverly Boyd. Abraham Boyd came from Tn. to Trigg Co. in abt. 1799. He operated a cotton gin & mill for abt. 20 years. He was instrumental in the organization & formation of Trigg Co. He was married to Nancy Linn from Davidson Co. Tn. & they had a son named Sam Boyd. Sam had the following children: Williemine, Archie, Sam, Lynn, Mary, Henry & Birdie. Does anyone know if Mr. Beverly Boyd is related to any of these Boyds and/or their children?
