Mary, I noticed on pg 45 of your Thomas Hill & Rebecca Miles book a picture of St. Rose Church. This, being the our first glimpse of the church, we were shocked at the remarkable resemblance of the structure and landscape to St. Francis Church of St. Paul, Ks, aka Osage Mission. This church was once referred to as "The Beacon of the Plains" and dedicated May, 1884. They say everyone has a twin. Perhaps this could apply to Catholic Churches as well. Though, the similarities are striking, one should not be too surprised since, the Sister of Loretto help establish the mission in 1847. Or maybe St. Francis' appearance was so design to remind it's early KS settlers of their KY home. Family names such as....... Bell, Bradshaw, Brown, Coomes, Fowler, French, Hill, Jarboe, Maguire, McAtte, Murphy, O'Bryan, Russell, Vessels Wathen, Whalen, and so on, may of been the influence. Since we find all this curious, (because my mother is a Jarboe, and still lives in St. Paul) we were hoping that you our someone with the lists may have a current photo of St. Rose. We would like to compare the exterior and interior of each for similarities. If you care to respond .....
